Whoopi Goldberg apparently cannot even bring herself to say former President Donald Trump’s name out loud without spitting.
The regular host of ABC’s midday talk show “The View” did exactly that when she mentioned him during Tuesday’s broadcast, making a dramatic show of spitting after she uttered his name.

Goldberg — who has consciously avoided saying Trump’s name aloud since he was president — realized in the middle of a discussion with her cohosts about Thursday’s upcoming debate between Trump and current President Joe Biden that her comment was too ambiguous to not explain exactly who she was talking about.
Cohost Sara Haines prompted her with a warning that Trump had to be taken seriously and he had to be taken literally.
“I don’t think we have to — I think it would be remiss of us to not say — Joe Biden knows how to do this. He knows how to do this, he’s quite good at this,” Goldberg replied. “And you know, you can’t refute anything with him because he just … and when I say him, I mean … Trump. He tends to just …”
The audience, well aware of Goldberg’s apparent aversion to saying Trump’s name aloud, began to laugh. Goldberg then paused mid-sentence, said, “ugh,” and then pretended to spit on the floor — which only prompted more laughter from the audience.

Goldberg has refused to say Trump’s name for years now, explaining that she can’t bring herself to use his name in conjunction with the office of the presidency. On her ABC show, she typically refers to him as “you-know-who.”
“People don’t like that I don’t do it, I’m fine with that,” she said in 2018. “There’s lots of stuff I do that people don’t like, you know, I can live with that.”
