Weekend Media Wrap, Vol. 22: What You Missed If You Weren’t Glued To The Sunday Shows

DailyWire.com

Every Sunday morning, legacy media outlets are taken over by elected officials, aspiring elected officials, administration insiders, and the usual collection of talking heads — all of whom are there to discuss specific policies, push talking points, or simply promote their own campaigns.

For those who don’t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to unravel a full week’s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.

ABC News, “This Week”:

During a panel discussion on ABC’s “This Week,” former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile argued that none of the other Republican candidates would be able to gain any real support unless they did a better job of separating themselves from the current frontrunner — former President Donald Trump.

Brazil argued that none of the other candidates had the “guts or the gall” to call out the former president in a manner forceful enough to move the needle, adding, “If you cannot point out your differences with the front-runner, then I don’t think you have a strategy to win.”

CBS News, “Face the Nation”:

Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) joined “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan for Sunday’s broadcast, and he blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for pushing back when President Biden’s administration called for a move toward a “two-state solution” — despite the fact that Hamas, and before that the PLO, had refused to accept that very offer.

CNN, “State of the Union”:

During a panel discussion on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Jake Tapper posed a question about President Biden’s position with regard to the progressive wing of his own party — many of whom have voiced disappointment in the way that he has handled the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

Tapper pointed out later in the discussion that anything Biden did to come to a compromise with Republicans — particularly when it came to the situation on the southern border — could drive a deeper wedge between his administration and members of his own party as well.

NBC News, “Meet the Press”:

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) joined “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker to discuss the battle raging in Congress for funding and security on the southern border. Graham said that Republicans had no intention of caving on their demands for more security on the border, adding that the increased risk of a terror attack — due to the massive numbers of illegal immigrants who simply aren’t apprehended when they cross into the United State — is one of his greatest concerns.

“I’ve never been more worried about a 9/11 than I am right now,” he said. “Our border has been obliterated and we’re not going to give in on some Band-Aid fix.”

FOX, “Fox News Sunday”:

Anchor Shannon Bream broke down a series of key points from the latest Fox News poll, noting that although Americans are still divided on the possible impeachment of President Biden, just under one-third (32%) believe he did “nothing seriously wrong.” In contrast, 38% believe he did “something illegal” and 27% believe he did “something unethical.”

Biden’s real problem, according to the poll, was the U.S.-Mexico border. As far as the president’s performance with regard to the border, 63% disapprove and just 33% approve.

And as for the urgency of the situation, 34% of respondents called the state of the southern border “an emergency.” Another 45% said that it was a “major problem,” and 20% said that it was a “minor problem.”

Finally, in hypothetical one-on-one match-ups against Biden, both Trump and former Governor Nikki Haley (R-S.C.) bested the incumbent Democrat — Trump beat Biden 50-46, and Haley beat him 49-43. Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) tied Biden in the same poll.

MSNBC, “Inside With Jen Psaki”:

Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki came to her own Sunday morning broadcast — “Inside with Jen Psaki” — fresh off an MSNBC editorial in which she accused former House Speaker and out-going Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) of selling his soul (and, by extension, the Speakership).

“So, what is the McCarthy imprint on the speakership? Simply put, he made clear it can be bought and paid for, even by people who have played a role in attempting to overturn the very branch of government he is leading,” Psaki wrote.

And true to form, while she did devote a segment of her show to the Israeli hostages who remain in the hands of Hamas terrorists, she spent a fair amount of time ringing the alarm bells about former President Donald Trump and his longtime counsel, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

In one clip, Psaki compared the impeachment efforts against President Joe Biden to Trump’s behavior: “We are dealing with two completely different realities. One where the concerns are about the wannabe dictator echoing Adolf Hitler, and one where the concerns are completely fabricated.”
