WATCH: U.S. Officially Withdraws From U.N. Human Rights Council

   DailyWire.com

On Tuesday evening, the U.S. officially announced our withdrawal from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). In doing so, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley blasted the council for scapegoating nations with clean human rights records (clearly signaling our support for Israel) and propping up human rights abusers whose regimes go without scrutiny.

“Human rights abusers continue to serve and be elected to the council. The worst most inhuman regimes continue to escape scrutiny,” slammed Haley. “And the council continues the politicizing and scapegoating of countries with positive human rights records in an attempt to distract from the abusers and their ranks.”

Continuing, the no-nonsense ambassador announced our official withdrawal: “Therefore, as we said we would do a year ago if we did not see any progress, the United States is officially withdrawing from the U.N. Human Rights Council,” she said. “In doing so, I want to make it crystal clear that this step is not a retreat from human rights commitments; on the contrary, we take this step because our commitment does not allow us to remain apart of a hypocritical and self-serving organization that makes a mockery of human rights.”

As reported by The Daily Wire on Tuesday, Haley has previously blasted the council for their unsavory practices. “For our part, the United States will not sit quietly while this body, supposedly dedicated to human rights, continues to damage the cause of human rights. In the end, no speech and no structural reforms will save the members of the Human Rights Council from themselves,” she said.

Others, too, have called out the council for their anti-Israel bias. “The Human Rights Council has no problem inviting a man cited as one of the most brutal men in the world address it, and a look at the new members inaugurated in 2017 into the Council shows a list of some of the most anti-human rights governments in existence,” said British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.
