A driver who rented a Tesla in California struck two parked cars during a recorded stunt that sent the car soaring through a neighborhood intersection early Sunday morning.

The footage was recorded by multiple sources and posted on the Los Angeles Police Department Central Traffic Division’s Twitter account.

The video revealed a black 2018 Tesla S-BLM jumping over the intersection at Baxter and Alvarado streets just after midnight in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles. The car struck trash cans as well as two parked vehicles.

The Tesla was reportedly abandoned at the scene of the incident. The LAPD is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the driver.

The driver’s identity should not be difficult to determine, as the car was rented and several spectators documented the incident.

According to a statement from the LAPD:

On March 20, 2022, at 12:10 a.m., the rental driver of a black 2018 Tesla S-BLM decided to perform a dangerous stunt, at Baxter Street and Alvarado Street, where he collided with several trash cans and two parked vehicles. The stunt was recorded by several spectators who posted it on several social media accounts. There is currently no description of driver, and the Tesla was abandoned at scene. A misdemeanor hit-and-run was completed, and detectives will be following up with the renter.

A later LAPD update noted: “We have received over 50 tips and anticipate more due the story going viral. Over 90% of the tips are of the same person who has a TikTok handle of @dominykas or @durtedom on Twitter. He is considered a person of interest based on the public postings on his account.”

Another update shared: “We are asking the public to no longer send us any more tips regarding @dominykasor We have reached out to him on his social media account. We are asking any witnesses to also come forward.”

The LAPD thanked social media users for their tips. “We also receiving several tips of Instagram users, @alex.Choi and @chazzydawg being present. They comprise the other 10% of the tips. We will be reaching out to them since they are witnesses to this crime. Thank you everybody for your tips.”

One of the vehicle owners also launched a public fundraiser on GoFundMe for those who would like to help with the repairs of his crashed Subaru.

“Hi, I’m Jordan, a local musician here in LA. Last night, I woke up to the sound of a jolting crash outside my window a little after midnight. I came out to see a destroyed Tesla rammed into the back of my Subaru. People were scrambling out of the crashed Tesla, grabbing their phones and cat (which apparently was in the car when it jumped) and getting into other Teslas that were all at this point clogging up the street. Then they just took off,” Suburu owner Jordan Hook said in part on the fundraising platform.

As of Monday, more than $3,000 had been raised for Hook’s Subaru repairs.
