HBO host Bill Maher appeared Sunday on CNN’s GPS, where he told anchor Fareed Zakaria that he hopes the stock market will crash under President Donald Trump.
Speaking in a pre-recorded interview, the left-wing comedian said he wanted a crash so that it would hurt the reputation of Trump. After that, he repeated the long-disproven myth that President Ronald Reagan launched his 1980 presidential campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi, as a way to pander to racists living in the area.
Maher told Zakaria, “I thought he would crash the stock market, and I still think he will. I’m hoping actually because that’s one thing that would maybe lose him a lot of support in the Republican party. But I thought and predicted, and I was wrong, that the stock market hates volatility and uncertainty. And who is more volatile than Donald Trump? But I guess I underestimated their greed because they still want their tax cut.”
The stock market crash in 2007 ruined lives and caused countless hard-working men and women to lose their homes. Zakaria did not point that out or challenge any of the vulgur comedian’s points.
Maher continued, “It’s almost a protest vote, you know. I’m not surprised because there are … now, there is a certain percentage of people who are, I think, racist, and that’s part of his appeal. And, you know, his dog whistle was louder than any dog whistle we’ve heard, and the Republicans have been playing that game since Nixon and the Southern Strategy, and Reagan opening his campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi. That’s been going on a long time, but he just did it in a much more blatant way, so he can’t deny that that’s part of it.”
The Reagan myth and the claim of the debunked “Southern Strategy,” shows that Maher is more interested in spreading common urban legend used by the Left and their allies in fake news to smear Republicans than in the truth.
