The New York Times has uncovered a gruesome video of an Afghan woman being brutally murdered by a mob after being accused of burning a Quran.
The woman, Farkhunda Malikzada, was alleged of burning a Quran by an Islamic cleric. Malikzada was then “viciously beaten, stoned, deliberately run over by a car, thrown into a dry river bed, crushed with larger stones, and then set on fire” by a mob while the police played the role of innocent bystanders.
The Afghanistan Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs later concluded that the allegations against Malikzada were untrue. Four people involved in the mob were sentenced to death, only to have those death sentences overturned by an appeals court. The police were sentenced to a year in jail for not protecting Malikzada.
Malikzada was horrifically murdered for allegedly burning a religious text. The religion of peace indeed.
