Abortion conglomerate Planned Parenthood is apparently in such dire straits that the entertainment magazine Variety has decided to forgo its annual Emmy Awards party and donate the funds to the “reproductive rights” organization.

“Variety has decided to make a donation to Planned Parenthood in lieu of hosting this year’s annual Emmy Awards nominees party in partnership with Women In Film,” Variety announced in an article on Wednesday.

Variety editor-in-chief Claudia Eller and chief revenue officer Michelle Sobrino-Stearns said the magazine proudly stands with the abortion giant as they fight for women’s rights in the entertainment industry.

“Variety continues to advocate for women’s rights, including issues of healthcare and gender disparity in the entertainment industry, and we stand with Planned Parenthood and our longstanding partnership with Women In Film,” the pair said in a statement.

Variety based its decision on Planned Parenthood’s recent announcement that it will no longer accept the annual $60 million in Title X funding due to the Trump administration’s recent order for it to separate abortion services with legitimate healthcare. LifeNews provided further context:

The Planned Parenthood abortion business announced today it will officially withdraw from the Title X program — costing it $60 million in taxpayer funds because it refuses to follow a new Trump administration rule that requires it to segment out its abortion business from legitimate health care if it wants federal funding under the program.

Because the abortion giant is withdrawing from Title X, the $60 million in taxpayer dollars it received annually can be redistributed to groups that engage in legitimate women’s health care.

Title X funds are supposed to be used to help low-income women and men receive birth control, cancer screenings and other health care services. While the tax money cannot be used to pay for abortions, it indirectly funds Planned Parenthood’s vast abortion business.

Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson denounced the Trump administration’s Title X rule as “unethical and dangerous” while vowing to fight it in court.

“Today, we are announcing that due to an unethical and dangerous gag rule, the Trump administration has forced Planned Parenthood grantees out of Title X—the nation’s program for affordable birth control and reproductive health care,” said Johnson.

“The Trump administration would have you believe that this gag rule will make no difference in people’s lives — but we know it will,” she continued. “The Trump administration would have you believe that places like Obria — a network of anti-abortion counseling centers which received a $1.7 million Title X grant this year — can provide the same level of care as Planned Parenthood health centers. But do you know what Obria does not provide? Contraception. This means patients who go to Obria seeking birth control will not be able to access methods like the pill, an IUD, and emergency contraception.”

In response to Variety forgoing its annual Emmy party in service of Planned Parenthood, Caren Spruch, director of arts and entertainment engagement at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, praised the magazine for its “unwavering support.”

“We are so grateful to Variety for its unwavering support of Planned Parenthood and commitment to sexual and reproductive health and rights,” said Spruch.
