Twitter Caves, Issues Alex Jones A One Week ‘Restriction’

After resisting the pressure for a while, the social media platform Twitter has now joined the rest of the Big Tech cadre by restricting Alex Jones’s account for violating its policies, albeit only for a limited period of time.

“Jones will be blocked from posting on Twitter for seven days because of a post that linked to a policy-violating video,” reports CNBC.

A Twitter representative told CNBC: “I can confirm that a tweet was reported to us which contained a link to a video on Periscope. Upon review, we determined it violated our rules and required the account to delete the tweet and video.”

The famed conspiracy theorist’s account will now have “limited functionality” during the seven day restriction; for one week, Jones will be unable to tweet or retweet. The InfoWars account remains up and active.

Twitter’s move to suddenly put restrictions on Alex Jones comes on the heels of its CEO Jack Dorsey exclaiming they had no desire to follow Facebook, Spotify, and Youtube in banning him.

Dorsey tweeted: “If we succumb and simply react to outside pressure, rather than straightforward principles we enforce (and evolve) impartially regardless of political viewpoints, we become a service that’s constructed by our personal views that can swing in any direction. That’s not us.”

Since the ban on Alex Jones last week, his platform has claimed upward of 5.6 million new subscribers.
