According to The Daily Beast, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump’s controversial campaign manager Corey Lewandowski once berated a subordinate for tending to his dying grandmother.
Pat Maloney, a former co-worker of Lewandowski’s from Americans for Prosperity (AFP), claims that Lewandowski once berated him via telephone for missing a conference call to be by his grandmother’s side as she was read her last rites. At the time, Lewandowski was the New Hampshire state director at AFP.
“My grandmother is literally dying, having Last Rites administered and I get a call from Corey chewing me out, asking who the hell did I think I was missing this conference call,” he said.
Maloney was a regional field director in Ohio for AFP when Lewandowski entered the picture. The former co-worker described Lewandowski as an aggressive “nasty brutish boor” who would frequently berate other employees “even when they were not his direct reports,” reports The Daily Beast.
“He was just a condescending, nasty brutish boor” he said of Lewandowski. “In a position of real power, he would make H.R. Haldeman in the Nixon administration look like a Boy Scout.”
Maloney also claimed that Trump’s campaign manager was often misogynistic: “There was definitely a misogynistic streak to this guy.”
Lending some credence to this claim is Lisa Bast, another former employee of Lewandowski from Ohio. Bast claims that Lewandowski once threatened to “come really down hard on her if she didn’t get 50 people to attend an AFP event in Akron.” After missing a conference call while planning the event, Lewandowski called her and went off the rails.
“Corey gets on the phone and defames my character. He called me incompetent, called me a loser,” she said. “He called me a f**king b**ch, yelling, ‘I am going to fire your f**king ass!’”
Bast added that above all else she was concerned with the fact that Lewandowski has “never been held accountable for his behavior.” “He was a loose cannon,” she said. “He is what he is and he needs to be exposed for the person that he is.”
Moreover, Lewandowski once allegedly called a female employee at AFP a “c*nt” in front of other staff back in 2013.
At the end of May, Lewandowski was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor battery against former Breitbart News reporter Michelle Fields. Video surveillance substantiated Fields’ claims that the campaign manager had grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back when she attempted to ask Trump a question regarding affirmative action.
Lewandowski instantly claimed that he had never met Fields and smeared her as an “attention seeker.” Trump infamously stood by Lewandowski on grounds of “loyalty.”
“Typical Corey,” said a former co-worker of Lewandowski’s from AFP who asked to be kept anonymous. “It didn’t surprise me. That’s not atypical at all.”
