President Donald Trump slammed Rev. Al Sharpton after the civil rights activist announced that he would be traveling to Baltimore amid the president’s controversial remarks over the crime-ridden and “rat and rodent infested” city.

“I have known Al for 25 years. Went to fights with him [and] Don King, always got along well. He ‘loved Trump!’ He would ask me for favors often,” Trump said early Monday morning. “Al is a con man, a troublemaker, always looking for a score. Just doing his thing.”

“Must have intimidated Comcast/NBC,” he continued. “Hates Whites [and] Cops!”

While Sharpton was already scheduled to hold a press conference in Baltimore with former RNC Chair Michael Steele, Sharpton revealed Sunday night his presser would be focused on addressing “Trump’s remark’s [and] bi-partisan outrage in the black community.”

Trump ignited a firestorm during the weekend after he criticized Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) for bullying Border Patrol agents over the conditions of illegal immigrant detention facilities while his own congressional district in Baltimore is a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”

Trump was immediately met with massive backlash over what many on the left-wing of the aisle deemed to be racist connotations. In response, Trump doubled down on the comments and accused Democrats of always playing the “race card.”

The city of Baltimore has been a top contender for the most rat-infested cities in the nation. Baltimore ranked in the top 10 “rattiest cities” for the second year in a row, according to a list compiled by the pest control company Orkin.

“Baltimore, under the leadership of Elijah Cummings, has the worst Crime Statistics in the Nation. 25 years of all talk, no action! So tired of listening to the same old Bull,” Trump continued on Monday. “Next, Reverend Al will show up [and] protest. Nothing will get done for the people in need. Sad!”

Sharpton has been a lightning rod for controversy and has a history of inflaming racial tensions within minority communities. He played an essential role in promoting the Tawana Brawley rape hoax in the mid-1980s, an incident that is considered to be one of the most infamous rape and race hoaxes in modern America.

“Al Sharpton would always ask me to go to his events. He would say, ‘it’s a personal favor to me.’ Seldom, but sometimes, I would go,” Trump said. “It was fine. He came to my office in [Trump Tower] during the presidential campaign to apologize for the way he was talking about me. Just a conman at work!”

Sharpton responded to Trump’s onslaught minutes later. The MSNBC commentator tweeted a photograph of himself standing next to singer James Brown and fellow activist Jesse Jackson while speaking to the president during a National Action Network (NAN) conference.

“Trump at NAN Convention 2006 telling James Brown and Jesse Jackson why he respects my work,” Sharpton wrote. “Different tune now.”

“Trump says I’m a troublemaker [and] con man. I do make trouble for bigots,” he continued. “If he really thought I was a con man he would want me in his cabinet.”
