Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement on Saturday regarding the death of Cuban President Dictator Fidel Castro. Glossing over Castro’s atrocities, he referred to the tyrant as a “remarkable leader.”

Governing with an iron fist, Castro oversaw executions of dissidents by firing squad, extrajudicial assassinations and brutal beatings of political prisoners by prison guards – remember when leftist groups like Black Lives Matter said police brutality and state-sanctioned violence were bad things?

Despite his own website boasting of a “proud record” standing up for the gay community and LGBT rights, Trudeau appeared unfazed by Castro’s overt opposition to gay rights and unapologetic homophobia. After rounding them up, Castro placed gays in forced labor camps — I’m old enough to remember when Trudeau attacked Canadian conservatives six months ago for believing in traditional marriage.

Expressing sorrow for this maniacal mass-murdering butcher, Trudeau’s full statement reads:

“It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of Cuba’s longest serving President.

Fidel Castro was a larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century. A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Castro made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation.

“While a controversial figure, both Mr. Castro’s supporters and detractors recognized his tremendous dedication and love for the Cuban people who had a deep and lasting affection for “el Comandante”.

I know my father was very proud to call him a friend and I had the opportunity to meet Fidel when my father passed away. It was also a real honour to meet his three sons and his brother President Raúl Castro during my recent visit to Cuba.

“On behalf of all Canadians, Sophie and I offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and many, many supporters of Mr. Castro. We join the people of Cuba today in mourning the loss of this remarkable leader.”

Trudeau’s flirtations with Marxist oppressors is nothing new. In late 2013, he praised Communist China, where he actually said, “There’s a level of admiration I actually have for China. Their basic dictatorship is actually allowing them to turn their economy around on a dime.” He also pushed to shelve a Conservative Party initiative towards the erection of a monument to memorialize the victims of Communist regimes.

Joining the ranks of the socialist Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn and former United States President Jimmy Carter, the Trudeau embraces a revisionist history where Fidel Castro’s unspeakable crimes against humanity were but a nuanced distraction from the larger truth of his godly government programs in education and healthcare.

Perhaps the most egregious part of Trudeau’s eulogy to Castro is the implication that he speaks on behalf of all Canadians.

No, Mr. Prime Minister. Canadians do not mourn the death of a mass-murdering Communist. We instead extend our warmest wishes to the people of Cuba still living under authoritarian rule, fervently hoping that one day they too will be free to enjoy their God-given rights to life and liberty.
