Kyle Kashuv announced Monday that Turning Point USA will be offering a scholarship for students from Majory Stoneman Douglas High School to attend a TPUSA event for high school students.
Kashuv, a survivor of the February shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and contributor at The Daily Wire, has continued to support the Second Amendment after the tragedy while many of his peers have entered the national spotlight to push for gun control. Kashuv also recently became the Director of High School Outreach for TPUSA. In his new role, he is chairing TPUSA’s High School Leadership Summit which will be held on July 24-26 in Washington, D.C.
TPUSA and Kashuv are prepared to allow any student from his school to attend the conference for free with travel and lodging included. “I am offering this scholarship because, for many of my peers, they’ve been denied or just not included in the national discourse,” Kashuv told The Daily Wire. “This will give them an opportunity to come together, hear lawmakers, and have discourse.”
Kashuv also claims that he would like some of the other well-known Parkland activists to attend or speak at the conference. “I would honestly love for David [Hogg] to come — I know we go at it on Twitter, but we are all Eagles at heart,” he said. “We both know we just want to make a positive difference. I would be happy to have him there as a guest, on our school safety panel, or for a civil debate.”
So far, around 25 students from Kashuv’s school have applied for the scholarship. Kashuv claims that they would like to give out as many scholarships as possible but are prepared to offer around 75.
“This is incredibly meaningful for me,” Kashuv added.
