President Donald Trump is cracking down on sanctuary cities, but because the Left never folds, the politicians supporting the sanctuary cities are digging in and flaunting the law.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti signed a directive that prevents “city employees from cooperating with federal immigration officials and instructed police at the ports and airports to refrain from investigating a person’s immigration status.” In other words, other city officials are now required to follow Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) policies with regard to immigration enforcement.
San Francisco, the sanctuary city where Kate Steinle was murdered by an illegal immigrant, is suing the Trump administration for cutting off their federal funding due to their sanctuary city status. The state of California might become a sanctuary state.
This all raises the following question: which sanctuary cities house the most illegal immigrants? According to the Pew Research Center, based on available 2014 data, here are seven such cities:
- New York City: 525,000.
- Los Angeles: 375,000.
- Chicago: 140,000.
- Denver: 55,000.
- Philadelphia: 50,000.
- Boston: 35,000.
- San Francisco: 35,000.
Pew’s report doesn’t specify those cities as sanctuary cities, but they are designated as such by the Center for Immigration Studies.
Pew also listed the top 20 metropolitan areas that house the most illegals:
Most of the metropolitan areas on the list include sanctuary cities; the only metropolitan areas that didn’t include any sanctuary cities were Orlando, Houston and Phoenix. Miami-Dade County ended their sanctuary city policy shortly after Trump’s inauguration. Some cities, such as San Diego, have claimed they never were sanctuary cities, but the Center for Immigration Studies states otherwise.
Only 11 of the 20 metropolitan areas listed had the data available to determine the number of illegal immigrants in each individual city.
Approximately 61 percent of illegal immigrants in the country reside in the 20 metropolitan areas listed by Pew, highlighting the danger of sanctuary cities, since there is a crime problem stemming from illegal immigration.
Trump ran as a law-and-order candidate; so far he is following through on that with regard to sanctuary cities. But since a lot of the mayors of sanctuary cities are going to fight him tooth-and-nail to keep their dangerous policies in place, the president better be ready to use every legal tool at his disposal to crack down on them in order to ensure the safety of the American people.
