As reported by The Wall Street Journal on Thursday, Target Corp. has announced that they will pour $20 million dollars into single-occupancy restrooms by next year in order to ease controversy over their move in April to allow “gender identity” to dictate customers’ bathrooms and fitting-rooms rather than biology.
Cathy Smith, Target’s finance chief, explained that the move is in direct response to the pushback they have received from costumers over their new transgender policy, although Smith contends that customers’ discontent and vocal opposition did not impact their bottom line.
By mid-April, over 730,000 people signed a petition opposing Target’s radical move to allow men into women’s restrooms and fitting-rooms.
A majority of the corporation’s 1,797 locations already have unisex or single-occupancy restrooms, so only the remaining stores will receive a new facility, said Target on Wednesday. By November, 277 more stores will receive a new transgender bathroom, as will the last 20 stores by March of 2017.
Of course, Target is pathetically capitulating to the left with their holier-than-thou transgender stunt, and likely putting women and children at risk. But according to National Review’s Jim Geraghty’s “crazy theory,” this might actually be a cultural “win” for conservatives.
“You claim customer discontent hasn’t had an impact on sales, but you’re going to spend $20 million? I think customer discontent just did have an impact on your bottom line,” he explains.
In other words, the left has gone too far and people aren’t taking it anymore. Conservatives and those sick and tired of the politically correct, hyper-sensitive and nonsensical garbage are retaliating—and it’s working. Sure, Target is still kowtowing to the left to some extent, but their need to spend $20 million on single-occupancy restrooms means dissenters of the radical left can’t be ignored.
“Notice this is almost entirely in the cultural realm, not the political one, far from the battles of the elections,” added Geraghty. “But perhaps 2016 will be remembered as the year where the Left advanced a bridge too far.”
