Sunny Hostin On ‘The View’: Jesus Would Be Attending A Gay Pride Parade

So now Sunny Hostin of “The View” thinks Jesus Christ would be attending a parade that celebrates a sexual morality contrary to thousands of years of Jewish and Christian teachings.

Over the weekend, as “Pride Month” kicked off on June 1, Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin of Rhode Island reiterated church teaching that the faithful should not partake in LGBT Pride events throughout the month of June.

“A reminder that Catholics should not support or attend LGBTQ ‘Pride Month’ events held in June,” Tobin tweeted. “They promote a culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Catholic faith and morals. They are especially harmful for children.”

Tobin’s tweet became a sensation on Twitter, with multiple leftists and LGBT activists denouncing him as a bigot. On “The View” Monday, co-host Sunny Hostin said Tobin promotes a viewpoint contrary to what Jesus would do, which apparently would involve celebrating what is considered sinful in the Bible.

“I’m so glad you brought that up because I was on Twitter this weekend and I read this tweet by the Bishop Tobin who is a Catholic bishop,” Hostin began. “And he comes out, and he says that he wants to remind all Catholics not to support or engage in any pride, participate in any pride, parades or anything supporting the LGBTQ community because it’s against Christian values and it is harmful to children.”

Hostin gladly tweeted in response to Tobin that her Catholic children will be attending a Pride event as well as herself.

“And I tweeted out that my Catholic children will be attending pride events as this Catholic will,” Hostin said. ” And you know, my faith always taught me what would Jesus do? And I know Jesus would be attending that pride parade, with pride.”

Hostin then went on to bring up the Catholic sex abuse scandal, wrongfully characterizing it as an issue of pedophilia when a majority of the victims are post-pubescent teenage boys,

“And I also know that God is love, Jesus is love, love is love,” Hostin continued. “For a Catholic bishop to come out and say something like that given the history of pedophilia in the Catholic church, given what the Catholic church has hidden about the abuse of children, some would say that being at a pride parade would be much safer for a child than it has been to be in a Catholic church for many years.”

While Hostin is certainly within her rights as an American to express her religious sentiments, her views do not align with the Catholic Church, which teaches that homosexual actions are sinful while demanding of the faithful to treat such people with kindness and compassion. Hostin has conflated kindness and compassion with acceptance and endorsement, which the Catholic Church also forbids. From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

The same Catechism has equally strong language condemning such actions as masturbation, birth control, pre-marital sex, and adultery. It does not single out homosexual men and women with calls to chastity and demands that all the faithful live chastely.
