Late Monday night, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders had a little fun celebrating the recently-dropped report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller exonerating Donald Trump and his presidential campaign from so-called “Russian collusion” during the 2016 election after two long years of investigation. Sanders shared a March Madness knock-off bracket called “Mueller Madness,” mocking various media figures who breathlessly pushed the proven-false Russia/Trump collusion story.
“Mueller Madness!” posted the press secretary in the tweet, including a NCAA Tournament-style bracket borrowed from the New York Post. “Which of the angry and hysterical [Donald Trump] haters got it most embarrassingly wrong? #YouDecide.”
Instead of the bracket being split up by regions, as is the NCAA March Madness bracket, Sanders’ mock bracket includes the following four sections to cover a total of 32 media personalities: Cable, Network, Print, and Twitterati.
Some of the media mess-up contenders were MCNBC’s Rachel Maddow, former CIA Director John Brennan, The Bulwark’s Bill Kristol, The Washington Post’s “conservative” voice Jennifer Rubin, actress Alyssa Milano, comedian Kathy Griffin, ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, CBS’ “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert, and Joy Behar of “The View.”
Attorney General William Barr sent a letter to Congress on Sunday afternoon reiterating that Mueller found no evidence “to establish that the President was involved in an underlying crime related to Russian election interference,” reported The Daily Wire’s Emily Zanotti.
“The Special Counsel found no evidence that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired with the Russians to influence the election, despite offers by the Russians to do so,” the letter states.
Prior to posting the trolly “Mueller Madness” bracket, Sanders appeared on the airwaves to highlight the media’s failings and underscore that the report “exonerated” her boss.
“I think the Democrats and the liberal media owe the president, and owe the American people, an apology. They wasted two years and created a massive disruption and distraction from people, things that impact everyone’s day-to-day life,” Sanders told “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie during a Monday morning interview, as reported by Market Watch.
“[They] have called the president an agent of a foreign government,” the press secretary noted. “That is an accusation equal to treason, which is punishable by death in this country.”
Sanders called the report findings “a complete and total exoneration” of the president.
The press secretary took to Twitter on Sunday to offer the same: “A great day for America and for President [Donald Trump]. After two years of wild anti-Trump hysteria, the President and his millions of supporters have been completely vindicated,” she wrote in a tweet.
In a follow up post, she wrote: “Democrats and their liberal media allies for two years slandered President [Donald Trump] for ‘conspiring with Russia.’ It was all a malicious, preposterous lie given wall to wall media coverage despite zero evidence. This should never again happen to an American President.”
