On Wednesday night, leftist political pundit Sally Kohn complained about Fox News covering the tragic murder of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts, an Iowa college student who was killed by an illegal immigrant.
“#1 story” on Fox News “is about undocumented immigrant who is *SUSPECT* for murder of a white girl,” Kohn flippantly wrote in a tweet. “Way to stay predictable, Fox,” she added.
The story of Tibbetts’ disappearance garnered national attention from all major networks before it came to light that the man charged with her murder, Mexican national Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, was an illegal immigrant.
Kohn apparently would have preferred to have seen the story about a “murder of a white girl” completely eclipsed by news about former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen and former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort. Fox, for the record, also covered those cases extensively.
Kohn wasn’t the only one in the media to be disturbingly dismissive of murder victim Tibbetts or to scold Fox for covering the story.
“And [Fox News] is leading it’s 5 p.m. newscast with police news conference on missing Iowa student Mollie Tibbets,” complained one WNYC senior reporter covering immigration and courts.
MSNBC’s Chris Hayes agreed.
An MSNBC guest, Fordham University Professor Christina Greer, also lamented Fox’s coverage. “Fox News is talking about, you know, a girl in Iowa,” she said.
Kohn and her CNN media allies, as you might recall, focused heavily on the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, perpetuating the infamous “hands up, don’t shoot” narrative, which was later discovered to be a lie.
