Australia’s 9 News reports that Russian company Embryo 3D is allegedly printing detailed models of unborn children using ultrasound images.
According to Embryo 3D founder Ivan Gridin:
I have a friend [who] was worried about the health of her child and wanted to see it. She had an ultrasound several times, but it wasn’t enough. I was fond of new technologies at that time, and 3D printing, and I said, “Let’s print it.”
The molds come in either standard plastic, or a plaster that can be covered with silver or gold.
Speaking with International Business Times (IBT), Yuliana Recun, who had a 3D model of her unborn child printed, said, “It is a weird feeling, the child hasn’t been born yet … but you can touch it and feel it as it is.”
Other companies have offered similar products in the past. In 2012, Hiroo Ladies Clinic in Japan partnered with Fasotec to create 3D models of the unborn. However, the results weren’t as detailed as those produced by Embryo 3D.
