Every month, the media quietly stamp news stories with their imprimatur, showering some with undue attention while ignoring — or suppressing — countless stories that their viewers doubtlessly find more important.
While the legacy outlets covered complaints that the Democrats trillion dollar “Build Back Better” act is not costly enough, it turned a blind eye to these more consequential stories during the month of November.
The Build Back Better Act could give amnesty to 8 million illegal immigrants, including wife-beaters and those who assaulted police officers
Congressional Democrats have in the past made multiple attempts to grant amnesty to the millions of illegal aliens currently residing in the United States. The Senate Parliamentarian has rejected two such efforts already, but Democrats seem to believe the third time’s the charm, and they seem to think they have crafted an amnesty provision that will withstand scrutiny.
“… ‘Plan C’ would probably be a parole option that would give about 8 million of the 11 million undocumented immigrants who meet certain requirements the ability to work lawfully, to have a status that would last five years and would be renewable for another five years, that would protect them from deportation, that would allow them to travel domestically and internationally … that could also potentially gain access to healthcare coverage,” said Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ).
According to Republicans who say they have seen the legislative language, the Democrats’ reconciliation package also lets criminal aliens guilty of violent crimes stay in the United States. Their analysis of the bill says the plan would grant amnesty to virtually everyone who has been in the U.S. for a decade and who is not guilty of a “crime involving moral turpitude.” Domestic violence, assault of a police officer, and assault and battery would not fall into that category, according to their analysis, which was furnished to the Washington Free Beacon. “… [C]ases of assaulting a police officer and lewd and lascivious conduct would also be among the crimes that may not lead to deportation,” reported the Washington Examiner.
“I’ve actually read these provisions, so I can tell you as someone who has worked on this for years now, it will allow people who have been convicted of serious crimes, including felonies, to be able to get amnesty in the United States of America to continue committing crimes against Americans,” Stephen Miller, a former senior adviser to President Donald Trump, told Laura Ingraham. “How that ended up in the spending bill blows my mind.”
Republican congressmen are equally incredulous. “Granting amnesty to those already here illegally will only perpetuate this crisis at the border by incentivizing further illegal immigration,” said Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI). “The administration is sending a bat signal out for illegals with amnesty,” said Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX) late last month.
Yet a search of network transcripts appears to show not a single reference to the issue in any primetime program on CNN or MSNBC, despite their purported commitment to fight domestic violence and assorted fronts on the alleged “war on women.”
The only CNN reference that might be seen in real time by a working individual came from Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) during an impassioned defense of her vote in favor of the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill on the Monday, November 8 episode of “New Day.” The Republican sought to distinguish her bill from the reconciliation bill, which she noted has “amnesty provisions and handouts to those in the country illegally.”
Black Lives Matter leader threatened “bloodshed” in New York City
As part of his successful campaign for mayor of New York City, Democrat Eric Adams promised to bring back a plainclothes police unit focused on gun violence. Mayor Bill de Blasio disbanded the unit last June during the height of the Black Lives Matter protests, amid a spike in violent crime that is only beginning to abate. There were 136 shootings in September, making Adams’ pledge seem uncontroversial — except to Hawk Newsome (whose given name is Walter), the leader of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York.
On Wednesday, November 10, Newsome met with Adams as part of a livestream event for Instagram and Facebook. After the meeting, Newsome stood outside Brooklyn Borough Hall and threatened the incoming Adams administration with mob violence if it kept its campaign promises.
“If they think they are going back to the old ways of policing then we’re going to take to the streets again,” Newsome promised. “There will be riots. There will be fire, and there will be bloodshed.”
As of this writing, the FBI defines “domestic terrorism” as “[v]iolent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.” A concerned FBI agent might wish to investigate whether the BLM leader’s statements advocate violence in the pursuit of a political objective — and what plans the BLM movement has made to follow through.

MSNBC, which has had a laser-like focus on the 11-month-old January 6 “insurrection,” completely avoided Newsome’s comments during prime time. The network finally covered the remarks last Friday morning on “Morning Joe,” but it did not come out as a stirring condemnation. “I don’t know what this person that stated this — the context. I don’t want to comment on that, because I don’t know,” said Al Sharpton.
CNN interviewed Eric Adams the following morning, and CNN anchor Jim Sciutto played Newsome’s remarks — and wondered if the mayor-elect should bend to the threat of violence and change his policing policy.
“Will you reconsider reinstating that policy based on those comments?” Sciutto asked Adams.
Adams replied that cracking down on crime “was my promise and I’m going to keep it.”
The following evening, Anderson Cooper asked Adams about Newsome’s threats and specifically, “what you learned or what came out of that” meeting, “and how worried are you about that?” Adams said he was “not at all” worried about Newsome’s comments.
Newsome subsequently tried to focus on the positive aspects of his meeting with Adams, saying that he presented the mayor-elect with a three-part plan to improve conditions in the black community. “Our people need healthy free plant based [sic] meals,” the third prong states.
Another historic Biden first: the largest increase in Medicare Part B premiums
The monthly premium that senior citizens pay for Medicare Part B coverage will rise by the highest level in U.S. history, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on November 12. Premiums for the service, which covers outpatient costs, will rise from $148.50 to $170.10 a month in 2022. The annual Part B deductible (out-of-pocket expenses for seniors) will also swell from $203 to $233. The historic increase will consume a large share of the 5.9% Social Security cost-of-living adjustment, which the AARP estimates at an average of $71.40 and other outlets say will total $92.
Part of that comes from the fact that Medicare Part B increases were held to an artificially low $3 last year, and inflation affects this, as well. But half of the increase comes to build “a ‘contingency reserve’ to cover the costs of Biogen’s new Alzheimer’s drug Aduhelm — if Medicare ultimately decides to cover it,” writes Christopher Holt, director of health care policy at the American Action Forum. “… [R]aising premiums more than double what was expected because of a possible coverage decision that hasn’t been made is hard to swallow.”
After breaking the record for the highest level of illegal immigration in U.S. history and a 30-year high for inflation, Joe Biden has scored another historic first in American misery.
Biden admin to stop collecting teacher-student sex assault allegations
Although the Virginia governor’s race turned in part on parental concerns that school officials in Loudoun County had covered up sexual assault (as well as opposition to controversial Critical Race Theory curriculum), the Biden administration has decided to collect less information about alleged teacher-student sex assault allegations. The Education Department’s Office of Civil Rights’ 2021-2022 Civil Rights Data Collection will track rape and sexual assault charges in schools — but not allegations of sexual impropriety that result in resignation or retirement.
The department told the Washington Free Beacon that the move is intended to “reduce burden and duplication of data,” but former acting assistant secretary of the office Kimberly Richey called it “the ultimate act of bowing to the teachers’ unions.” After Attorney General Merrick Garland coordinated his office’s handling of vocal parents with the National School Boards Association, it adds to the subtext that the Biden administration serves the interests of its constituent pressure groups, like labor unions.
Conflict of interest? Biden union appointees won’t recuse themselves in a case about their former employer
Building on the labor union theme of the last story, the media turned a blind eye to a months-long conflict of interest controversy involving two Biden administration appointees from the labor movement. Biden named Gwynne Wilcox and David Prouty to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the nation’s highest labor tribunal. Both used to work for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), a union intimately connected to Biden and the Obama administration before him. The SEIU has sued to overturn a Trump-era ruling that prevented national franchises like McDonald’s from being sued for infractions committed at local stores that are independently managed. (Imagine, for instance, the manager of your local McDonald’s forces a teenager to work later than allowed by the law; the SEIU’s proposal would punish the national headquarters.)
Both refuse to recuse themselves from the case. Fourteen Republican congressmen, including seven senators, wrote a letter to NLRB chair Lauren McFerren protesting the duo’s involvement in a controversial case brought by their former employer. On November 5, McFerren responded that “they have each determined that their participation in the Board’s decision-making regarding this matter is appropriate.” Technically, Wilcox wand Prouty worked for individual chapters — 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and SEIU Local 32BJ, respectively — not the national organization. “Given these close ties, the notion that Members Prouty and Wilcox can serve impartially on matters involving SEIU’s joint employment lawsuit strains credulity,” said Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC). Had this occurred in the previous administration, it strains credulity that CNN and MSNBC would ignore the story entirely.
