As Tim Tebow awaits a possible one-year contract to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars, progressives on Twitter have excoriated the NFL for leaving former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick out in the cold.

As The Daily Wire reported on Monday, Ian Rappoport of NFL Insider announced that Tebow stands on the cusp of signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars and reuniting with his former mentor.

“The #Jaguars are planning to sign QB-turned-TE Tim Tebow to a 1-year deal, per me and @TomPelissero, a deal that could be official in the next week or so. Nothing done yet. But he’ll have a chance to make the team to reunite with his mentor and college head coach Urban Meyer,” he tweeted.

Kaepernick fans, many of whom feel that the NFL blackballed him in response to his national anthem protests in the name of Black Lives Matter, did not welcome the news.

“Interesting how the same people that are praising Tim Tebow for his values outside of football, see Colin Kaepernick‘s values as a distraction,” tweeted Ahmed Ali.

“There’s no way you can tell me that Tim Tebow deserves to be on a team as an unproven tight end who hasn’t played in 9 years more than Colin Kaepernick. There’s just no way that’s gonna make sense,” tweeted David Dennis Jr.

“Tim Tebow hasn’t played in 8 seasons. Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played in 4. This signing destroys the ‘Kaepernick has been out of the league too long’ narrative,” tweeted Resist Programming.

“I don’t ever want to hear another word about how Colin Kaepernick isn’t good enough for another shot at the NFL,” tweeted Doug Farrar.

“So Tim Tebow can get a NFL contract and he’s been out of the league for the past 5 years but Colin Kaepernick can’t get back in the league?” tweeted Josh Hicks.

“Tim Tebow getting another shot at the NFL while Colin Kaepernick remains out of work says all you need to know about Black and White men in America,” tweeted Chief Resistance Officer.

“Can’t believe I have to say this to the anti-Kaepernick group 5 years later: Just admit you hate the guy and it doesn’t matter if he’s more talented than several other NFL QBs. You love the blackball. It’s the truth of your position. The lies you come up with are pathetic,” tweeted Tim Kawakami.

“Kaepernick last played in 2016, but for some of you that’s been too long. Tim Tebow last played in 2012 but ‘he’s going to work hard.’ Ok,” tweeted Andrew Clay.

“Colin Kaepernick since Tim Tebow last played in an NFL regular season game? 12,209 yards, 70 TD, 27 INT. * Road wins over Packers and Panthers in the playoffs. Kap has not played since 2016,” tweeted Vincent Frank.

Back in 2016, Kaepernick launched a protest movement when he said that America has been allowing cops to “murder” black people and demanded that police officers undergo further training.

“People of color have been targeted by police,” Kaepernick said. “So that’s a large part of it, and they’re government officials. They are put in place by the government. So that’s something that this country has to change. There’s things we can do to hold them more accountable. Make those standards higher. You have people that practice law and are lawyers and go to school for eight years, but you can become a cop in six months and don’t have to have the same amount of training as a cosmetologist.”

Following the violent protests and riots in response to George Floyd’s death at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer, Colin Kaepernick seemed to oppose civil protests, arguing that civility “leads to death.”

“When civility leads to death, revolting is the only logical reaction,” Kaepernick tweeted. “The cries for peace will rain down, and when they do, they will land on deaf ears, because your violence has brought this resistance. We have the right to fight back!”
