Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced their first Netflix series with Archwell Productions: “Heart of Invictus.”

According to HuffPost, the new show “will follow veterans who are competing in the Duke of Sussex’s Invictus Games as they train for Invictus Games The Hague, which will take place in 2022. Harry founded the games, which are a Paralympic-style multisport event for wounded service people, in 2014.”

In a press release, Prince Harry said the new series will “give communities around the world a window into the moving and uplifting stories of these competitors on their path to the Netherlands next year.”

“As Archewell Productions’ first series with Netflix, in partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation, I couldn’t be more excited for the journey ahead or prouder of the Invictus community for continuously inspiring global healing, human potential and continued service,” he added.

Prince Harry will make an appearance in the docuseries; he is also listed as an executive producer. A representative for Archwell Productions said that all compensation for the series will go to The Invictus Games Foundation.

“As part of the agreement, The Duke and Archewell Productions are redirecting compensation they would otherwise receive for this project to The Invictus Games Foundation,” the rep told HuffPost.

Ted Sarandos, co-CEO and chief content officer of Netflix, praised Archwell Productions for “building an ambitious slate that reflects the values and causes they hold dear.”

“From the moment I met them, it’s been clear that the Invictus Games hold a very special place in their hearts, and I couldn’t be happier that their first series for Netflix will showcase that for the world in a way never seen before,” Sarandos said.

In September of last year, shortly after Harry and Meghan split from the Royal Family, the duo signed a multi-year “megawatt” deal with the streaming empire.

“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” the couple said at the time. “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.”

They also hoped to “share impactful content that unlocks action.”

At the time, Harry and Meghan were said to be pitching a number of projects centered around “feminism,” “racial justice” and other pet social justice causes to several outlets, Netflix included. They had already produced a documentary called “Rising Phoenix” about wounded soldiers competing in the Invictus Games; their first children’s programming project was also said to be “an animated series…focused on inspiring women,” according to The New York Times.

The pair was also reportedly looking at a TV series that “will focus on two issues closest to [Meghan’s] heart – female empowerment and racial equality” perhaps based on the Duchess’s life before marrying into royalty. “It will tackle discrimination like that faced by mixed-race Meghan herself as she grew up in Los Angeles.”
