The heckling of CNN reporter Jim Acosta by a crowd of Trump supporters has flared up tribalist impulses. One such person was Politico reporter Marc Caputo, who has now apologized after referring to the hecklers as &#8220;garbage people.&#8221;
At a rally Tuesday night in Tampa, Acosta experienced the wrath of Trump fans who belligerently shouted &#8220;CNN sucks! CNN sucks!&#8221; behind his back during a segment. The chants and boos were at one point led by the group &#8220;Blacks For Trump.&#8221; In response, Acosta tweeted out his fear that Trump&#8217;s rhetoric against the &#8220;fake news&#8221; media would result in violence against journalists.
