Today’s Muslims are yesterday’s Jews.
Today’s Jews being killed by today’s Muslims – ehhhh, whatever.
So runs the perverse logic of the international left, which insists that Western unwillingness to house, clothe, and feed hundreds of thousands of unvetted Muslim refugees from the Middle East mirrors the West’s failure to house Jewish refugees up to and during the Holocaust. CNN’s execrable Dean Obeidallah tweeted out a piece from The Washington Post today making this point; the piece, by Ishaan Tharoor, analyzes “What Americans thought of Jewish refugees on the eve of World War II.” Tharoor writes, “Two-thirds of the respondents agreed with the proposition that ‘we should try to keep them out….Two-thirds of Americans polled by Gallup’s American Institute of Public Opinion in January 1939 – well after the events of Kristallnacht – said they would not take in 10,000 German Jewish refugee children.” So what? Tharoor concludes: “It’s worth remembering this mood when thinking about the current moment, in which the United States is once more in the throes of a debate over letting in refugees.”
Jewish refugees of 1939 and Muslim refugees today are in exactly the same position, according to Tharoor: victims of American anti-rational xenophobia.
Over at The New York Times, professional useless person Nicholas Kristof agrees, writing: “Desperate refugees flee persecution and war, but American politicians – worried about security risks – refuse to accept them. That’s the situation today, but it’s also the shameful way we responded as Jews were fleeing Nazi Germany in the 1930s.” The Los Angeles Times reported today, “The debate over whether the U.S. government should continue to admit migrants from Syria following last week’s terrorist attacks in Paris has drawn comparisons to the Holocaust from leaders of local cultural organizations that focus on human rights and other international issues.” At The Huffington Post, David Bier explains, “During World War II, the U.S. turned away Jews due to security concerns.”
Put aside the fact that comparing Muslim refugees to Jewish refugees is asinine for a variety of reasons, as Michael Qazvini has written, ranging from the fact that Jewish refugees were not a terror threat, that Jewish refugees held Judeo-Christian values compatible with Western civilization, that Jewish refugees had no other place to go, and that Muslim immigrants to the West have exponentially boosted hate crimes against Jews in particular.
Focus instead on the irony that the same people decrying Western treatment of “the new Jews” are completely silent when it comes to “today’s Jews” murder today’s actual Jews. It’s gotten so bad for Jews in Europe at the hands of Muslims in Europe that serious discussions have taken place about whether Jews ought to abandon Europe altogether. Meanwhile, the left’s morally disgusting attempts to distinguish Muslim terror against Jews, both in Europe and in Israel, from Muslim terror against other Westerners continues apace. The same people who now complain of that Muslims are victims of a fictional Holocaust now look the other way as today’s Muslim would-be Holocaust practitioners murder Jews. When Muslims shot up the offices of Charlie Hebdo, President Obama decried the targeted attack; when they headed straight to a kosher deli to try to kill Jews, he called it random. This week, just days after the Paris terror attacks, three ISIS supporters in Marseille stabbed a Jewish schoolteacher – but since that guy was a Jew, no biggie. That followed on a Jew being stabbed in Milan, Italy. Today, three Jews, including an American, were shot to death in Israel by Muslims. Of course, Jews throughout Europe have been targeted for murder by Muslims for years, their synagogues targeted for destruction, their religion targeted for annihilation. And Jews throughout Israel have been targeted for genocide by Muslims for years.
Yet the sick left continue to call Muslims today’s real Jews – victims of a racist establishment hell-bent on singling out a religious minority – even as they militantly ignore their own complicity in the murder of real, live Jews. The left funds the Palestinian Authority and their Hamas unity government to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, even as Muslims prodded by the PA and Hamas stab Jews in the streets. The left opens up the world economy to openly genocidal Muslims in Iran, allowing dollars to flow through to Muslim terrorists firing rockets at innocent Jews.
But, of course, the Jews are the problem.
Here’s the reality: today’s Jews are yesterday’s Jews. Today’s Muslims are yesterday’s Muslims. It is beyond insulting – it approaches parody – to appropriate the mantle of historic Jewish victimhood for many of the very people who support the murder of those Jews’ children and grandchildren.
