Nancy Pelosi: Banning Late-Term Abortions Is ‘Really Quite A Sad Thing’

Following President Trump’s emphatic defense of the unborn in the face of such moral evils like late-term abortions during the State of the Union address on Tuesday night, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the ban on such a practice is “really quite a sad thing.”

While rushing through the halls of Congress, a reporter with The Daily Caller confronted the House Speaker to get her thoughts on President Trump’s call for a ban on late-term abortions. Her answer was typical Nancy Pelosi.

“It’s really quite a sad thing when you know that we’ll be talking about something that applies to the health and life — health and ability to have other children of women,” said Pelosi. “I hope that in his family, he never has to face that crisis and apply his attitude toward it.”

As noted by LifeNews, Pelosi was shilling heavily for abortion on Tuesday night, being that she invited Planned Parenthood president Leana Wen as her guest for the evening.

“As an immigrant, a mother, a doctor, and the president of Planned Parenthood, I am honored to attend the State of the Union as the guest of Speaker Pelosi — who throughout her illustrious career has been a staunch champion for women’s rights, immigrant rights, voting rights, and universal access to health care,” Wen said in a statement in response to Pelosi’s invite.

Fortunately, neither Pelosi’s rabid defense of abortion nor the presence of Wen dissuaded President Trump from defending the unborn on Tuesday night, as he stated:

There could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding her infant child than the chilling displays our nation saw in recent days.

Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb moments before birth. These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world.

And then, we had the case of the governor of Virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth. To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb.

Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life.

And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth — all children — born and unborn— are made in the holy image of God.

Democrats did not respond favorably to President Trump’s comments. As reported by The Daily Wire’s Amanda Pretigiacomo, many were either stone-faced or cynically grinning. “Nearly all Democrats were visibly upset at Trump’s remarks to call for the protection of pain-capable babies and their mothers from gruesome, complication-prone late-term abortion,” she reported.

Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins said the Democrats’ reaction put the contrast between America’s two parties into direct focus. “Never before has the contrast between the two parties been more clear, as there seems to be no line that the Democratic Party will draw when it comes to protecting either life in the womb or the health of women in abortion facilities. And as we saw with Pelosi’s guest, Planned Parenthood has friends in government as it draws in more than half-a-billion in taxpayer dollars,” said Hawkins.
