New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, is hoping President Trump can get his Super Bowl ring back from Vladimir Putin, who allegedly stole it.
You just read that.
In 2005, Robert Kraft was among several businessman who traveled to Russia to meet with President Vladimir Putin. According to Kraft, at one point, he removed his Super Bowl ring so the Russian leader could look at it up close.
Page Six quotes Kraft:
“I took out the ring and showed it to [Putin], and he put it on and he goes, ‘I can kill someone with this ring.’ I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out.”
Kraft wanted his ring back, but a powerful organization had a counter-offer. According to Kraft, he received a phone call from someone within the Bush administration, who said it would be best to issue a statement saying he offered Putin the ring as a gift.
Kraft reportedly scoffed before the person with whom he was speaking repeated: “It would really be in the best interest if you meant to give the ring as a present.”
Page Six claims the ring is resting comfortably in the Kremlin library.
The allegations that Putin simply stole the ring weren’t made public until 2013.
According to Fox Sports, Kraft “told FOX News on Sunday that he is hopeful his friend, new president Donald Trump, can assist him in getting back a Super Bowl ring” from the Russian dictator. “I do have an emotional attachment that ring,” Kraft said.
In the age of Trump, anything is possible. Perhaps Robert Kraft can indeed recover his ring. Although, after being publicly slighted, Putin may not be so forgiving.
President Trump has yet to respond to this pressing matter. If all else fails, Larry David could use the story as a plot on the upcoming ninth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Just a thought.
