On MSNBC’s Hardball Tuesday, the show’s embarrassment of a host Chris Matthews said something that had it come from the mouth of a conservative would have caused a media meltdown.
During comments on the absence of Donald Trump at the upcoming Fox News Republican primary debate, Matthews asked, “Who is going to watch a debate between the two Cuban guys?”
The “two Cuban guys,” of course, are Texas Senator Ted Cruz (who Democrats would also have you believe is really Canadian) and Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
“Who is going to watch a debate between Rubio, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz? Who cares?” continued Matthews. “You know they’ve been fighting in this inter-league fight over who is the hawkish guy, or whatever. Who is going to watch that Thursday night?”
The left’s often overtly racist and race-baiting treatment of Cruz and Rubio has been on display a number of times. As Newsbusters highlighted, Matthews himself questioned their credentials as true “Hispanics” last year.
“So you’re trying to insinuate that Marco Rubio, a fellow, uh, Spanish surname, I’m not sure the right word is Hispanic for them, because they are Cuban nationals or whatever, or come from Cuba,” said Matthews during a discussion of their stances on immigration.
Perhaps the most egregious moment involving Cruz’s ethnicity was Mark Halperin’s race-baiting inquisitorial interview with the senator in which he essentially asked Cruz to prove that he was truly Cuban. “[W]hen you filled out your application to Princeton, to Harvard Law school, did you list yourself as an Hispanic?” asked Halperin. “Do you have a favorite Cuban food, Cuban dish? … Do you like Cuban music, do you have a favorite Cuban singer?” Halperin’s treatment of Cruz was so godawful that he eventually felt compelled to apologize publicly.
