‘Morning Joe’ Guest: Trump’s Baltimore Rhetoric Could Lead To ‘Horrible Civil War’

America may be on the verge of a “horrible civil war” because President Donald Trump criticized a crime-ridden major city that has exclusively been run by Democratic mayors for decades, according to a guest on “Morning Joe,” reports Fox News.

Over the weekend, President Trump ignited controversy when he called out Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) for being the congressman overseeing what many might consider one of the most troubled districts in the United States.

“Cumming[s’] District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess,” Trump tweeted. “If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.”

After accusations of racism piled up, the president doubled down on his remarks and even accused the Democrats of playing the “race card.”

“Someone please explain to Nancy Pelosi, who was recently called racist by those in her own party, that there is nothing wrong with bringing out the very obvious fact that Congressman Elijah Cummings has done a very poor job for his district and the City of Baltimore,” the president tweeted. “Just take a look, the facts speak far louder than words! The Democrats always play the Race Card, when in fact they have done so little for our Nation’s great African American people. Now, lowest unemployment in U.S. history, and only getting better. Elijah Cummings has failed badly!”

Speaking on “Morning Joe,” chief public affairs officer for MoveOn.org, Karine Jean-Pierre, said that Elijah Cummings “is everything Trump is not” and suggested the president attacked him out of fear.

“Donald Trump is upset because Congressman Cummings is everything that Donald Trump is not,” she said. “He is calm; he is smart; he is thoughtful; he actually works for his constituents. He is a good public servant. He is the example of the American dream.”

Jean-Pierre’s suggestion that Cummings is “calm” and “thoughtful” appears rather dubious. Below is a video of Cummings acting neither calm nor thoughtful during a 2014 House committee hearing on the Obama administration-era IRS scandal:

“Donald Trump put his hand on the Bible — technically two Bibles — and took the oath of the presidency to be a president for all of us,” Jean-Pierre continued. “And since that day, since that moment, every hour, he seems to just prove that to be wrong. He is not a president for black people. He’s not a president for women. He’s not a president for brown people. He’s not a president for the LGBTQ community. He chooses to just double down and triple down on bigotry and racism.”

According to Jean-Pierre, Trump’s rhetoric regarding Baltimore will continue until the 2020 election — which she believes could lead to a civil war.

“I don’t know where Donald Trump wants to take this, but wherever it is, it’s going to be dangerous,” she said. “It could lead to some sort of horrible civil war. He is testing us. He’s testing the democracy. He’s shredding the Constitution. And so, Republicans, the leadership in the Republican Party, need to stand up. You have to speak up. Because if you don’t, you are encouraging this. You are picking Donald Trump, loyalty to Donald Trump, instead of to the country.”
