Punk rocker Glenn Danzig, frontman for The Misfits, says that punk rock will never see full-blown resurgence so long as “cancel culture” remains in place.

Speaking with Rolling Stone about his upcoming movie, “Death Rider in the House of Vampires,” Danzig recalled the band’s song “Last Caress,” which contains notably  — and intentionally — controversial lyrics and how such a song would not be welcome in today’s culture.

“It’s just a crazy a** song,” said Danzig “We would do things just to piss people off.”

“It was just like, ‘F*** your system, f*** all this bulls***.’ It was something else. I don’t think people will ever see anything like it again. There won’t be any new bands coming out like that. Now, they will immediately get canceled,” he said.

Danzig added that wokeness would prevent the “punk explosion” from happening today.

“People don’t understand, because everything’s so cancel-culture, woke bulls*** nowadays, but you could never have the punk explosion nowadays, because of cancel culture and woke bulls***. You could never have it,” he added. “It would never have happened. We’re lucky it happened when it did, because it’ll never happen again. You won’t have any of those kinds of bands ever again. Everyone’s so uptight and P.C., it’s just like, ‘OK, whatever.’”

Danzig’s denunciation of cancel culture follows that of former “Sex Pistols” frontman Johnny Lydon, a.k.a. Johnny Rotten, who said he fears the impact cancel culture could have on American freedoms.

“These people aren’t really genuinely disenfranchised at all. They just view themselves as special,” he told U.K.’s The Times. “It’s selfishness and in that respect it’s divisive and can only lead to trouble. I can’t believe that TV stations give some of these lunatics the space. Where is this ‘moral majority’ nonsense coming from when they’re basically the ones doing all the wrong for being so bloody judgmental and vicious against anybody that doesn’t go with the current popular opinion?”

“It’s just horribly, horribly tempestuous spoilt children coming out of colleges and universities with s*** for brains. And I put that in the most polite way,” he later added.

Rotten was equally critical of the United Kingdom, especially the debate over canceling former Prime Minister Winston Churchill because of racist comments Churchill made against minorities, particularly residents of India, while the country was still under British colonial rule.

“This man saved Britain. Whatever he got up to in South Africa or India beforehand is utterly irrelevant to the major issue in hand,” he said. “We are not walking up and down the high street with jackboots and helmets because of that man.”

“The Nazis were the biggest race haters of all, ever, in the history of the planet so thank you again, Winston,” he added.

Prior to the 2020 election, Lydon declared himself a Trump voter.

“I became an American citizen because I believed that Obama could change the world for a better place and I truly believed that at the time,” Lydon said. “I was very disappointed in eight years how little was actually achieved.”
