Pop singer Miley Cyrus is sick of being “slut shamed.” The newly divorced 26-year-old posted a rant to social media this week complaining that male stars are praised for bedding beautiful woman after beautiful woman, while females in the public eye are called “sluts” and “w****s.”
Reacting to leaked photos of Cyrus kissing longtime friend and Australian musician Cody Simpson, the singer complained, “Men (especially successful ones) are RARELY slut shamed. They move on from one beautiful woman to the next MOST times without consequences. They are usually referenced as ‘legends’, ‘heart throbs’, ‘G’, ‘Ladies Man’ etc… where women are called sluts/w****s!” E! News reported.
Cyrus’ solution to the apparent discrepancy is not to demand more from men, but to “join them.”
“I am trying to just THRIVE/survive in a ‘mans’ world… if we can’t beat em, join em! If our president can ‘grab em by the p***y…’” she wrote, referring to leaked audio of President Donald Trump, “can’t I just have a kiss and açai bowl?!?!”
“I know the public feel invested in my past relationship because they felt like they saw it [through] from the beginning,” she continued. “I think that’s why people have always felt so entitled over my life and how I live it because they’ve watched me grow up… but I am grown now and make choices as an adult knowing the truth/details/reality.”
“Meeting/trusting people in my position is really tuff,” the “Wrecking Ball” singer said. “Don’t f***ing pity me, not what I’m asking for. I have a great life I wouldn’t trade ‘privacy’ but PLEASE don’t make light and like always MAKE FUN of myself/and the public’s perception of me ! Get used to me dating—this is where I am at !”
“I refuse to recluse and ‘date’ from home cause A. That’s not fun B. Extremely uncomfortable/ puts me in a vulnerable position… I would like to share an activity with someone I am dating and not be stuck at home with pretty much nothing to do but ‘Netflix and chill,’” she added.
After less than a year of marriage, Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth announced their separation in August. Cyrus quickly jumped into a relationship with Kaitlynn Carter, the ex-wife of Brody Jenner.
“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” a statement from Cyrus’ camp said of the split. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of the animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
The singer also seemingly commented on the separation in an Instagram post. “Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win,” she said. “Like the mountain I am standing on top of, which was once under water [sic], connected with Africa, change is inevitable. The Dolomites were not created over night [sic], it was over millions of years that this magnificent beauty was formed.”
