Amid a wave of protests and riots over “systemic racism” and the growing movement on the left to tear down monuments dedicated to famous figures from America’s past, the Princeton University Board of Trustees voted on June 26 to remove the name of the nation’s 28th President of the United States, Democrat Woodrow Wilson, from one of its schools. On Monday, former First Lady Michelle Obama praised the actions of her alma mater and called on the university to find more ways to be “more inclusive to all students.”
In a statement issued Saturday, Princeton’s board of trustees explained that it voted to scrub Wilson’s name because of his “racist thinking and policies.”
