The flood of reports of the ever-expanding migrant caravan steadily marching toward the southern border is yet another example of “Trump’s genius” in manipulating the narrative to the detriment of the Democrats, says left-wing documentary director Michael Moore.
Amid reports that the group of what was estimated to be some 2,000+ migrants from Honduras had made it through Mexico’s southern border and was adding more migrants and more momentum as the swelling group marched north, Moore did what he’s become notorious on the Left for doing over the last two years: told the Left that Donald Trump was winning the national argument, just as he did before the election in 2016, when Moore told Democrats to get used to saying “President Trump.”
In a series of tweets that feature aerial shots of the massive caravan, Moore once again waxed prophetical about Trump steering the national narrative to electoral victory.
“So here we have a beautiful aerial shot—just in time 4 the Midterms! And everyone falls for it. This is one of the most remote areas of the Western Hemisphere. Try finding a helicopter/drone down there to film this. You can’t. Trump’s genius is how he once again outsmarts the Dems,” wrote Moore.
“This ‘caravan’ has been going on for 20 years as refugees flee the violence of Guatemala, Honduras & El Salvador. Most end up in Mexico & are assisted by international refugee groups. Few walk the 1,000+ miles to the US. Trump is using this racist fear tactic to win the Midterms,” he added.
Mexican news outlet El Universal reported Monday that local officials estimate that some 14,000 Hondurans have begun the trek north.
“The first group walked for 37 kilometers from Ciudad Hidalgo to Tapachula on Sunday afternoon and was comprised by 5,333 children, women and men,” El Universal reports, citing municipal authorities, the Mexican National Migration Institute, and Tapachula’s Catholic Diocese as its sources. Another 3,000 men, women and children soon added to that number. “Meanwhile, there are 3,000 children, women and men in the Ciudad Hidalgo International bridge, shared by Mexico and Guatemala, who are looking to enter Mexico with documents provided by the INM,” the outlet reports.
Trump has responded to the caravan by making clear that his priority is protecting America’s sovereignty and warning about bad actors he says are mixed into the thousands of migrants. “Sadly, it looks like Mexico’s Police and Military are unable to stop the Caravan heading to the Southern Border of the United States. Criminals and unknown Middle Easterners are mixed in. I have alerted Border Patrol and Military that this is a National Emergy. Must change laws!” Trump tweeted Monday, a comment that earned blowback from his critics.
