Mark Levin: Sorry Guys, But Trump Is Simply ‘Not A Conservative’

Mark Levin responded Thursday to Donald Trump accumulating enough delegates to win the Republican nomination. Levin, who announced in early April that he was officially #NeverTrump, said that despite his best efforts, he was “not excited.” The reason: Trump is simply “not a conservative.”

While Trump’s eventual nomination has been widely accepted since his final two opponents suspended their campaigns, he didn’t have the 1,237 required delegates until last week. When Trump finally attained the number Thursday, Levin spent some time on his massively popular radio show answering the question why he’s not excited about Trump as the nominee.

“I’m trying to feel excited about this, Mr. Producer—even ecstatic about it—and I’m not. Why is that?” asked Levin.

“Donald Trump is not a conservative,” he answered. “He’s trying here and there, I see it. He’s got some people putting together economic plans for him, he’s got some people putting together judges for him,” but in the end, argued Levin, on social and political issues Trump leans left.

One particular example Levin gave is Trump’s position on the transgender bathroom debate. When pressed on it, Trump repeats that it’s a states’ rights issue, but “refuses” to actually answer what he thinks about it.

“The problem is there is not a conservative horse.”

The radio host also slammed those who compared Trump to Reagan. “He’s not Reagan,” said Levin. “No, he’s Trump.”

As for the argument from some about how Trump shouldn’t change, Levin countered, “But he has changed… He’s changed on the minimum wage. He’s changed on taxes. He’s even changed whether Muslims should be let into the country and how we should secure the border. He is changing—he’s changing right in front of our eyes.”

He then hit Trump for suggesting that we rename the Republican Party “The Workers’ Party,” which Levin suggested was indicative of his non-conservative instincts. “You’re going to call it the Workers’ Party? Like the Communist Social Workers Union?” he scoffed. “How about the Freedom Party? The Capitalism Party? The Opportunity Party? The Growth Party? The American Party?”

“The problem is, there is not a conservative horse” in the 2016 race, said Levin. “There’s just not.” Audio below:

When Levin first announced his #NeverTrump conversion, he underscored the dirty tactics of Trump’s “sleazeball” operatives, particularly Roger Stone, as a major reason he couldn’t support the business mogul.

“Now, there are sleazeballs, like him, sleazeballs like [Ann] Coulter, and sleazeballs like some talk show hosts, and I’m biting my tongue, who are so contemptible and pathetic, they want to use the most outrageous attacks on one of their colleagues to try and promote themselves. It’s truly pathetic,” said Levin. “Now, I’ve backed [Ted] Cruz, and I’m going to continue to back Cruz, but here’s what I’m going to do. As a result of what the Trump supporters have attempted here, particularly Roger Stone, I am not voting for Donald Trump. Period. … And if anybody has a problem with that, Donald Trump, you can talk to Roger Stone.”
