Social Justice Warriors are taking their crusade to new heights and going to war with reality as we know it. This week, a medley of student activists at South Africa’s University of Cape Town (UCT) gathered at a “safe space” to lecture faculty about the Eurocentrism of science, demanding that the discipline be “decolonized.”
Arguing that African “black magic” or “witchcraft” is an equally viable, if not a more accurate way of viewing the world, these SJWs fanatically made their conspiratorial case against the conditioning of “Western” science.
“Science as a whole is a product of Western modernity and the whole thing should be scratched off. Especially in Africa,” pontificated one student, adding:
I have a question for all the science people. There is a place in KZN called Umhlab’uyalingana, and they believe that through the magic, the black magic–you call it black magic, they call it witchcraft–you are able to send lightening to strike someone. Can you explain that scientifically because it’s something that happens?
When the student’s unintelligible pronouncements were met with hysterical giggling, the apparent moderator of the “safe space” issued a self-righteous declaration condemning “disrespectful” reactions.
Welcome to the twilight zone of post-modernism, where facts are entirely subjective. Here, competing epistemologies like, say, Newton’s theory of gravity are but one of many lenses through which one can understand the world. Just because witchcraft can’t be proven by “Western” empirical studies, that doesn’t mean it’s not real. You racist.
According to Reason.com, “The students are apparently known as ‘fallists.’ Their hashtag is #ScienceMustFall”
We now have ostensibly educated students going to war with the very idea of science. You know, modern science, the most prolific intellectual achievement in human history; the “system” that brought us the Polio vaccine, antibiotics, and seedless watermelons, ensuring that life expectancy moves beyond your bar mitzvah, or the ripe old age of childbirth.
The fact that this insanity is occurring at our universities tells you everything you need to know about the trajectory of mankind (or womankind…apologies for using insensitive gendered language).
God help us all.
