America’s abortion laws are one giant case-study in cognitive dissonance. If a pregnant woman is murdered, laws in some of the most liberal states call it double-homicide; however, if the woman were to “terminate” that same child just moments before, it’s called empowerment.
Trying to bring some sanity into this bizarre equation, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a law on Sunday allowing for “murder charges to be brought against unborn babies who are victims of secondary violence,” according to LifeNews.
Senate Bill 203 was introduced by state Sen. Aaron Freeman after a woman in his district lost her daughter and unborn grandchild to homicide.
“If someone kills a pregnant woman, they should not only be tried for her death, but also the death of the fetus,” Freeman said, according to Fox 59 News.
Charges of murder, manslaughter, and feticide could be brought against a suspect under the new law, which could increase sentencing up by six to 20 years.
Pro-life leaders in Indiana wholly welcome the new law. Indiana Right to Life called it a step forward for the rights of unborn children.
“The recognition of the worth of a child killed during a felony further places Roe v. Wade on a collision course with law and history,” Indiana Right to Life President and CEO Mike Fichter said. “We are committed to doubling down on efforts to bring about a majority on the Supreme Court that will strictly interpret the constitution, dismantle Roe, and provide full protection for all unborn children, including those who are targeted for abortion.”
Naturally, pro-aborts hate the law, calling it a camel’s nose under the tent that targets abortion, even though as many as 29 states, including far-left California, have similar laws on the books.
