After dedicating over a year to mocking his former pal, Alec Baldwin feels “one thousand percent” confident that he can “absolutely” beat Donald Trump in 2020.
In a moment reported by The Daily Beast’s Matt Wilstein, Baldwin told shock jock Howard Stern Monday that, should he choose to, he could easily take out Trump in the next election.
Stern set up the moment by bringing up who the Democrats should run against Trump in 2020.
“I can only think of a couple of people who could beat Trump,” said Baldwin (video below).
“I’ve got a name for you: Alec Baldwin,” said Stern.
“If I ran, I would win. I would absolutely win. One thousand percent I would win,” said Baldwin, underscoring later, “If I ran for president, I would win. Hands down, I would win.”
“It would be the funniest, most exciting, craziest campaign,” the actor added.
As for why he won’t run, Baldwin cited his desire to spend time with his kids, his wife, who apparently wouldn’t be so thrilled about the idea, and his new show on ABC, “The Match Game.”
As he often does when addressing the topic of Trump, Baldwin quickly dropped the comedy and got serious. The reality is, he said, no one really knows who is going to end up being Trump’s Democratic opponent. If he ever decides to run, however, he’d embrace “very common sense” positions and do “obvious” things.
“I’d love to run for that kind of position to just have things be very common sense,” he said. “There are so many things that this country needs to do that are so obvious.”
Baldwin also told Stern that he’d heard that Melania Trump secretly loves his impersonation of her husband, because, the actor suggested, she knows “what a maniac he is.”

Though he’s repeatedly hinted that he might be done impersonating Trump, he’s still frequenting SNL to reprise the role for the show’s equally obsessive Trump mockery.
