According to a leftist art professor at the University of Florida, the term “melting pot” is racist.
No, really.
“DO NOT EVER USE THE PHRASE ‘MELTING POT’ IN THIS CLASS. IN THIS CLASS WE CELEBRATE DIVERSITY, NOT SAMENESS,” reads a portion of Professor Pamela Brekka’s online assignment syllabus, in all capital letters.
Brekka has even admittedly dinged students’ grades over their use of the inclusive term, because, you know, “tolerance” is a core tenet of the left and all. She does deny, however, making such a mark-down a “strict policy,” notes The Daily Caller.
According to the leftist professor, the term “melting pot” is offensive, since it doesn’t accurately represent American diversity. Referring to America as a melting pot “signals a Euro-White Colonial standard, point blank, period,” explained Brekka. The art professor prefers the term “salad” to articulate the diversity in our country, since ingredients in the “salad,” like peoples in America, can remain distinct while intermingling with others.
Brekka’s beef with the term “melting pot” is apparently just the tip of the iceberg; the professor’s leftist activism seeps into many other aspects of her course.
For instance, one graded discussion focused on the claim that “architectural design has been dominated by men in order to promote a social/political order dominated by men.” Yup, architecture is sexist…

As one student of Brekka’s told Campus Reform: “It’s almost as if the questions, how they’re worded, you can only answer them this one certain left-wing way … It was not a college level course … because we didn’t get a lot of the information.”
Of course, defining the term “melting pot” as racist takes some serious mental gymnastics, even for a leftist. But, interestingly enough, the same leftists occupying American universities don’t seem to view overtly racists things as racist at all.
Take, for example, “black only healing spaces” at the University of Missouri; white “allies” of the Black Lives Matter movement were kicked out of such areas solely for the color of their skin. This “space,” which is by definition racist, was somehow okayed by the leftists who created it.
Remember: the term “melting pot”: racist; segregated areas based on race: not racist.
