The coastal elites have literally no idea how to interact with people who actually believe in God — those who think outside their frame of the universe.
This is why, despite the polls, Republicans may be in a better position than you think.
The Daily Show deployed pseudo-comedian Jordan Klepper to Texas to talk with Ken Paxton voters and defend James Talarico about his “God is nonbinary” line.
Even Talarico has walked back that line because he realized it was stupid to say. Claiming that God does not have a human sex is a different thing from saying that God is nonbinary. Nonbinary describes people who are sexed, meaning a man who believes he is neither man nor woman, or a woman who believes she is neither male nor female.
To use that sort of language to describe God is to commit a massive category error, and to essentially give the go-ahead to the ridiculous idea that human beings can be nonbinary is what James Talarico did in the first place.
Jordan Klepper decided that he would mock a bunch of Texans for not believing that God is nonbinary. He does not understand how religious people describe God.
Many human descriptors don’t apply to God. When you say that God is powerful, you don’t mean that God is bodybuilding in the gym. And when you say that God has no sex, you don’t mean that he is a person with a sex who will not describe himself as a male, which is what nonbinary means.
Mocking people who understand what God is supposed to be in the Bible is a hell of a way to try and drive Texans to vote for James Talarico.
But Klepper made penis jokes about God. He said, “God is male. Okay, where does it say God is male in the Bible? Well, it’s the Son of God. You say son, that means male, period. So he’s got all the male parts and everything. … What’s God packing? Come again? What’s God packing?”
The descriptions of God as male in the Old Testament exist because some attributes are more male, such as justice, and others are more female, such as mercy.
James Talarico agrees with Jordan Klepper. He’s a coastal elite in his views of morality and the Bible. His version of the Bible bears literally no resemblance to the version believed in and practiced by most Texans.
Meanwhile, Ken Paxton announced plans to establish a detransition clinic at Texas Children’s Hospital. It would be a multidisciplinary clinic that provides medical care to patients who previously underwent gender transition interventions. That’s the kind of idea that should resonate with most Texans.
One thing you are seeing in the polling data and in the prediction markets is Talarico leading the race. But prediction markets that are restricted to people who actually live in Texas favor Paxton. Prediction markets that include national audiences in places like California and New York say Talarico is going to win.
Talarico is ripping Elon Musk for spending a lot of money in Texas. Elon Musk is spending a lot of money in Texas not just because Terafab will be built there, but also because Talarico is spending a tremendous amount of money there.
Talarico blustered, “We will let Elon Musk know that Texas is not for sale.”Apparently it is for sale — as long as Talarico is doing the buying. According to USAFacts, the top-spending candidate in America is James Talarico: $128.8 million.
The top nine spending candidates are all Democrats:
Jon Ossoff, Georgia Senate: $110,426,538; Sherrod Brown, Ohio Senate: $61,686,820; Roy Cooper, North Carolina Senate: $47,190,466; Abdul El-Sayed, Michigan Senate: $45,175,567; Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, New York House: $37,429,335; Mary Peltola, Alaska Senate: $32,623,722; Raja Krishnamoorthi, Illinois Senate: $31,560,943; David Trone, Maryland House: $26,216,747.
Democrats have spent $1.7 billion. Republicans have spent $1.1 billion.
If you’re talking about money in politics, Democrats are dumping it in.
The real question in Texas, as always, is: Do Texas Republicans show up?
If they do, Talarico will lose.
Democrats aren’t running their best candidates in a wide variety of these races. That means go out and vote. Don’t be taken in by all of the push-polling or the general media narrative that if a candidate is up two points in a margin-of-error race where the margin of error is four points, that means that this thing is over, that a blue wave is coming.
This election is still very much up for grabs. Early voting is open pretty much everywhere, so if you can vote early, you should, because you just don’t know what Election Day will bring.
Go out and vote.
Right now.
