FRANKEL: The Left’s Reaction To The Mueller Report Tells You Who They Really Are

Over the weekend, the much-anticipated Mueller report, detailing the findings from a two-year investigation into the Trump campaign and possible conspiracy with the Russian government to win the 2016 election, concluded that there was no collusion and no evidence of obstruction of justice.

In other words, all Trump did was win an election, and Hillary Clinton was an awful candidate.

Naturally, one would think that every single American would be happy to find out that their president, regardless of whether they share the same political party or philosophy, isn’t some secret traitor in the pocket of an enemy government.

But that isn’t who the Left is.

Take, for example, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and her devastated reaction to finding out the news of no new indictments in the report.

Or the Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur:

Just fascinating.

But let’s put the shoe on the other foot for a moment.

It wouldn’t be such a stretch to say that most, if not all, conservatives despised former President Obama, Clinton or Carter’s policies and worldviews. However, if there were a conspiracy surrounding one of them in which they were secretly beholden to another government, ready to sell out the United States to the highest bidder, and then after two years they were cleared and the conspiracy debunked, I think most conservatives would be relieved.

But why? Wouldn’t we want a Leftist president, whose policies are probably toxic and destructive, forced out of office?

Unless it’s through a fair process, of course not.

Aside from it tearing the country apart more than it already is, we would take comfort in the fact that by not being in the pocket of another country’s leader, the president’s first priority is, by default, his own country. Of course, it’s true that we as conservatives have very different worldviews, policies and road maps for how we want the country to function than Leftists do. However, allegiance to the country that they are supposed to serve and a toxic Leftist worldview are not necessarily mutually exclusive, at least in their own minds.

For example, I believe the Obama presidency did enormous damage to the country in terms of race relations, foreign relations and precedent for corruption. But if there were a widespread conspiracy that he, say, brokered the Iran nuclear deal because he was actually a closet Iranian spy, and a special counsel investigated him for two years and found this to be false, I’d be relieved that he was just doing what he thought was best, as misguided and awful as it was. Because at the very least I’d know my president was doing what he thought was good for the country he was leading, as his Constitutional oath bound him to do. Putting aside how awful Obama’s policies were, the way to fight them was at the ballot box, and cheering on false accusations would’ve been despicable.

But it’s not about that for the Left. Country be damned, because for them, it’s all about power. The Democrats in Congress, especially in the House of Representatives, are still going strong on the anti-Trump crusade based on this phony conspiracy about Russian collusion and President Trump being a Russian spy, now claiming that the Attorney General, Bill Barr, only cleared the president because he hired him. They know this is patently absurd, but they don’t care. Because for the Left, it’s about them and their power and control at all costs, no matter the damage it does to the country they’re supposed to serve.
