Now that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has picked up victories in Iowa (coming in a close second), New Hampshire, and now Nevada, the Democratic divide has quickly begun to show itself as party members decide if their hatred for President Trump is worth voting for an avowed socialist who speaks fondly of communist dictators. Former Obama National Finance Committee Member Don Peebles says that a Sanders candidacy is a bridge too far for him and partly blamed the former president for the Democratic debacle.
Speaking to Lisa Boothe on “Fox & Friends” on Sunday, Peebles urged Sanders’ opponents to recalibrate their campaigns in order to sink his candidacy, asserting that he could not support him in the general election.
“There’s no way I could vote for Bernie Sanders as a socialist,” Peebles said Sunday. “I believe things need to be shaken up, and voters on the Republican side as well thought they did, and that’s how Trump got the nomination, and that’s why he’s president. I think these centrist Democrats need to articulate a much more aggressive vision to moving the nation forward and bringing everybody else into the prosperity that we’re seeing right now.”
“But to attack Trump and attack each other, that is a losing combination, and they will end up with Sanders as the nominee,” he added.
Regarding Sanders winning the Nevada primary on Saturday, Peebles said that the socialist only has an “insurmountable lead” due to the failure of Democratic Party elites.
“They sat on the sidelines. President Obama sat on the sidelines, Hillary Clinton… John Kerry… Al Gore… on the sidelines,” exclaimed Peebles. “If they want to stop Bernie Sanders, they should have learned what happened in 2016 with Donald Trump and the Republican Party.”
Peebles begged former Vice President Joe Biden and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to “offer an alternative” to some of Sanders’ proposals while urging them to stop sniping at each other.
“I don’t believe that Biden is positioned to win the nomination, but I think he should be able to give it a better fight than he’s given so far,” Peebles said. “I don’t think Mike Bloomberg is in a position to win it either. I believe that they are killing each other off and have left Bernie Sanders kind of all to himself., and if they don’t go at Bernie Sanders right now and start calling him out on many of these issues that are motivating voters and offering an alternative, this nomination’s going to get away from them, and the Democratic Party’s going to have Sanders.”
Establishment figures in the Democratic Party have been steadily panicking in the wake of Bernie’s major victories. Shortly after Nevada, former Clinton adviser James Carville said the move is “political suicide.”
“The happiest person right now is Vladimir Putin,” Carville said on Saturday. “I don’t think Sanders wants Putin to help. I think they don’t like this story. But the story is a fact. This thing is going very well for Vladimir Putin. I promise you. He’s probably staying up watching this right now. How you doing, Vlad?”
