While former Vice President Joe Biden certainly has important experience under his belt, his long record has been a source of trouble for the Democrat since officially declaring his presidential candidacy late last month.
A racially-charged clip of Biden from 2007 discussing condom use in the black community and AIDS testing has become the latest un-Woke clip of the former VP to come under scrutiny.
On a debate stage alongside Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama, Biden bragged about spending his entire summer trying to convince black men to wear condoms, scolded “the community” for being “in denial” about AIDS, and praised Obama for getting an AIDS test.
“As Hillary points out, there’s neglect in the part of the medical and the white community focusing on educating the minority community out there. I spent last summer going through the black sections of my town holding rallies in parks trying to get black men to understand it’s not unmanly to wear a condom, getting women to understand they can say no, getting people in the position where testing matters,” the Democrat said.
Biden then bragged about him and Obama getting tested for AIDS.
“I got tested for AIDS,” he said enthusiastically.
“I know Barack got tested for AIDS. There’s no shame in being tested for AIDS,” he added, gesturing to an uncomfortable looking Obama. “It’s an important thing.”
Biden continued: “The fact of the matter is, the community, the community is engaged in the community. They’re engaged in denial. No one wants to talk about it in the community.”
“And we do not have enough leaders in the community and outside the community demanding we face the reality; confront the men in the community, as well as the women, letting them know there are alternatives,” said Biden, as cameras panned to a scowling Al Sharpton sitting in the audience.
As noted by The Daily Caller, Obama later clarified that he got tested for AIDS alongside his wife Michelle as part of a public effort to raise awareness about the disease.
Biden has had other notable flubs when it comes to race. The Democrat infamously praised Obama back in 2007 for being a black man who’s “articulate and bright and clean and nice looking.”
“I mean you’ve got the first sort of mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and nice looking guy,” he said. “I mean that’s a storybook man.”
Additionally, in 2012, Biden told a mostly black audience of supporters in Virginia that Republicans and Wall Street want to put them “back in chains,” Politico reported.
“They’ve said it. Every Republican’s voted for it. Look at what they value, and look at their budget. And look what they’re proposing,” Biden said about Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget proposal.
“[Romney] said in the first hundred days, he’s going to let the big banks write their own rules — unchain Wall Street. They’re going to put y’all back in chains,” Biden said.
Biden announced his candidacy with a pre-recorded video in April that suggested that President Donald Trump allegedly called white nationalists “very fine people.” The president, his supporters, and even the likes of CNN have criticized Biden’s accusation as untrue.
