Welcome back to Education Insanity, a weekly column updating you on the most insane events taking place in our nation’s schools. Here we’ll delve into the growing presence of critical race theory, the ideology that claims that America is irredeemably rooted in racism, and “woke” culture.

10. Georgia Tech May Change Its Fight Song To Be More Gender-Inclusive – Campus Reform 

Georgia Tech students will vote on changing the school’s “Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech fight song to be more gender-inclusive of cheerleaders. The second verse reads, “If I had a daughter, sir, I’d dress her in White and Gold, and put her on the campus to cheer the brave and bold.” Students will vote whether to change the word “cheer” to “join.” 

9. Education Department Proposal Would Flood Public Schools With Woke Curricula – Washington Free Beacon 

The Biden administration proposed a rule that would prioritize funding for education groups that develop “anti-racist” teaching curricula. The rule would prioritize grant applications to schools that want to include critical race theory, the 1619 Project, and other “anti-racist” civic studies. 

8. Berkeley Is Looking For An Employee To Run ‘Climate Healing Circles’ With ‘BIPOC’ Activists – Campus Reform 

The University of California-Berkeley is seeking to hire a coordinator for “wellness and environmental justice” who will run “climate healing circles” and “wellness collaboration days” with LGBT and racial affinity groups. Applicants must have an “intention of justice and liberation over status quo/reformation” as well as two years experience in “sustainability or environmental jobs.”

7. Head Of NYC’s Posh Dalton School To Leave At End Of 2021 – New York Post 

The headmaster of the elite New York private school, Dalton School, resigned after 16 years following parental pushback over the school’s embrace of progressive politics. In his resignation letter, headmaster Jim Best touted the school’s “ambitious” diversity and equity goals. 

6. ‘One Cop Almost Down … A Million More Cops … To Go’: Rutgers Prof’s Hopes For The Future – The Daily Wire 

An assistant professor of journalism at Rutger University tweeted out his hopes for the future, which included, “a million more cops … to go,” following the conviction of Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd. “One cop almost down,” Chenjerai Kumanyika tweeted. “A massive carceral system and a million other cops, capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, ableism, misogyny, to go.”

5. Colleges Send Emails Condemning American Justice System Following Derek Chauvin Guilty Verdict – The Daily Wire 

Following the verdict in the Derek Chauvin case, a slew of colleges sent out statements condemning the American justice system and systemic racism. At Iowa State University, the school’s president told students that they should be fearful of police because George Floyd’s death could have happened to their “Father, mother, brother, or sister — or even themselves.”

4. Elite NYC Private School Tells Whistleblowing Teacher To Stay Home – New York Post 

A high school math teacher at the elite New York City Grace Church School was “relieved” of his teaching duties for the rest of the semester after penning an opinion article about the “anti-racism” curriculum being pushed at the school. The article detailed how the teacher publicly questioned race-based ideologies within the school and was subsequently reprimanded by school leadership.

3. Broward Schools Superintendent Arrested On Perjury Charge – The Daily Wire 

Robert Runcie, the superintendent of Broward County schools who cut back sharply on discipline in the schools before the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, was arrested on a charge of perjury. Another school board attorney was also charged with unlawfully disclosing grand jury proceedings. 

2. Ohio State Students Occupy Student Union, Demand School Cut Ties With Columbus Police – Campus Reform 

Following the death of a knife-wielding 16-year-old, hundreds of student activists at Ohio State University staged a protest inside of the student union demanding an end to the school’s contract with the Columbus Police Department. Approximately 400 students convened at the union and marched to the nearby Columbus Capitol building. 

1. Tennessee Tech Professors Post Fliers Calling Colleague, Turning Point USA Adviser ‘Racist’ – Inside Higher Ed 

Two Tennessee Tech University professors are under investigation for posting fliers that designated their colleague as a “racist.” Andrew Smith, an associate professor of English, and Julia Gruber, an associate professor of German, admitted to posting insulting fliers around the school of associate nursing professor and Turning Point USA adviser Andrew Donadio.
