On Sunday, the two top Democratic congressional leaders issued an open letter to President Trump that makes an open attempt at appealing to his ego, pleading with him to seize this “historic opportunity” and take “urgent, personal action” on gun control in defiance of the National Rifle Association (NRA).

In a joint letter sent to Trump Sunday and published by The New York Times, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) told Trump that he is “uniquely poised” to answer the call of the American people, who are “crying out for their elected representatives to stop the epidemic of murder and mayhem that is shattering families and communities across the country.”
