On Thursday, Ted Cruz, having heard the vicious comments former Speaker of the House and establishment icon John Boehner made about him, had a blistering response for Boehner, retorting that Boehner had allowed “his inner Trump to come out.”
Cruz didn’t stop there; he made a point of noting that Boehner, as the establishment Republican par excellence, was a perfect fit with Trump, saying, “If you’re happy with John Boehner as speaker of the house and you want a president like John Boehner, then Donald Trump’s your man.”
Boehner had violently attacked Cruz on Wednesday night at Stanford University, savagely ripping, that Cruz was “Lucifer in the flesh” and adding that he had “never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.” Boehner also added fondly that he and Donald Trump had played golf together and were “texting buddies.”
Speaking to reporters in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Cruz pointed out that he had honored his commitments to voters to fight against the establishment, which entailed fighting against Boehner’s establishment agenda, which angered the establishment icon. Cruz told voters, “When John Boehner calls me Lucifer he’s not directing that at me. He’s directing that at you.” He concluded, “What Boehner is angry with is the American people holding him accountable. That’s what Boehner is angry with. What made John Boehner mad was that I led a movement by the people to hold Washington accountable.”
“If you’re happy with John Boehner as speaker of the house and you want a president like John Boehner, then Donald Trump’s your man.”
Boehner’s hatred for Cruz has been in evidence before; last August he called him a “jackass.”
