On Tuesday, Bill Cosby’s lawyer accused rival attorney Gloria Allred of playing on racism in order to gin up outrage over multiple allegations of sexual assault. “Mr. Cosby is no stranger to discrimination and racial hatred,” said lawyer Brian McMonagle, “and throughout his career Mr. Cosby has always used his voice and his celebrity to highlight the commonalities and has portrayed the differences that are not negative – no matter the race, gender and religion of a person. Yet over the last 14 months, Mr. Cosby and those who have supported him have been ignored while lawyers like Gloria Allred hold press conferences to accuse him of crimes for unwitnessed events that allegedly occurred almost a half-century earlier.”
Now, it seems pretty clear, based on the consistency of testimony of dozens of alleged victims, that Cosby did sexually abuse a huge number of women. But Cosby’s lawyer has a point: Allred is a major backer of Bill Clinton’s. I’ve personally asked Allred about her support for Clinton in spite of her supposed hatred for sexual harassment and assault.
Her answer: none.
So what’s the difference between Clinton and Cosby? Not much. Here, for example, is testimony from an alleged sexual assault victim: “Then he tries to kiss me again. And the second time he tries to kiss me he starts biting my lip … He starts to, um, bite on my top lip and I tried to pull away from him. And then he forces me down on the bed.”
Here is some testimony from a second alleged sexual assault victim: “He asked me if I wanted a glass of wine; I took a few sips. It had a horrible taste. And I started not feeling well. He helped me up by my underarms with both hands. He walked me into the next room, where there was a mirror on the wall, and he told me to look at myself. Something was wrong with me.”
Which one of these scenarios sounds worse? The first testimony comes courtesy of Clinton alleged victim Juanita Broaddrick; the second comes courtesy of a Cosby accuser.
So, what’s the difference between the two men? It isn’t actually race – it’s ideology. Cosby’s being targeted for destruction by the left while Clinton is lauded because Cosby had the temerity to speak out years ago against “cursing and calling each other n****” by young black men, adding, “They can’t read; they can’t write. They’re laughing and giggling, and they’re going nowhere.” He ripped ebonics, too: “You can’t be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.” Cosby stated, “For me, there is a time…when we have to turn the mirror around. Because for me it is almost analgesic to talk about what the white man is doing against us.”
Cosby alleged engaged in evil behavior for which he should be fully punished, of course. But the reason the left wants Cosby’s head while wanting to elevate Bill Clinton back to the White House is politics – the same reason they laud Roman Polanski and Woody Allen while hating Mel Gibson.
The left has no true moral standards. It only has political standards. If you don’t meet those political standards, you’ll be treated the way all criminals should be; if you hold by their political standards, they’ll pretend you’ve done nothing wrong, and back you no matter what crimes you’ve actually committed.
