Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and his girlfriend, actress Rosario Dawson, have endorsed two different candidates for the Democratic Party nomination within days of each other. Though Booker has endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden, Dawson has endorsed socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
“I got to vote for Bernie again and I did,” Dawson said in an Instagram post on Tuesday. “Whoever it is that you’re supporting I hope that you are doing it consciously, with heart and with a ballot. Talking about things helps but actions speak louder than words.”
Dawson then implored voters “on the sidelines” to get out and register to “make this election one for the history books.”
“Turnout needs to be historic to drive home the message that we stand for something bigger and better than what we have now,” said Dawson. “That we truly stand for each other. Earthizen [sic] Humanity First! Please-No more bullying. No more mocking. No more trolling. We can be better than that so why not be? Let our decency, honesty and humanity ring loud and true. It’s much more constructive, believe me. March to the polls and let’s make sure folks are registered and able to vote by any means necessary.”
Dawson concluded her message by encouraging those who are upset about a supposed rigged election process to get out and voice their support in other ways beyond voting.
“Voting is only one of many ways we can transform our system for the better (fill out your census!),” she concluded. “So please stay in the game, no matter what, and continue the fight our ancestors fought with fewer means and resources, not just so that we could bicker on social media, but so that we could continue to improve conditions for each other and make the path that much better, healthier and clearer for the generations to come. Blessings to you all.”
Rosario Dawson endorsed Cory Booker during his presidential campaign while they were dating. “Cory, you continue to inspire me everyday. On this journey you and your remarkable team have represented the best in us and I know you will continue to. Thank you. I see you. I love you,” she said at the time.
Dawson’s Instagram message in support of Bernie Sanders came just one day after Cory Booker announced that he would support Joe Biden for president, hailing the former veep as the “answer to hatred & division.”
“The answer to hatred & division is to reignite our spirit of common purpose,” Booker announced on Twitter Monday. “[Joe Biden] won’t only win – he’ll show there’s more that unites us than divides us. He’ll restore honor to the Oval Office and tackle our most pressing challenges. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Joe.”
Actress Rosario Dawson recently made headlines when she quasi-came out as LGBT when speaking with Bustle while saying the identity was never really a “calling” for her.
“People kept saying that I [came out]… I didn’t do that,” she said. “I mean, it’s not inaccurate, but I never did come out come out. I mean, I guess I am now.”
Immediately, however, Dawson clarified she never considered this LGBTQ identity “authentic.”
“I’ve never had a relationship in that space, so it’s never felt like an authentic calling to me,” she said.
