Newly-engaged actor Chris Pratt was trashed by critics online soon after he told fans about a Bible-inspired fast centered around prayer called the “Daniel Fast.” The “Guardian of the Galaxy” star, who’s been unapologetically open about his Christianity, was slammed for believing in “fairy tales” and making his way to “crazy town.”

“Hi, Chris Pratt here. Day three of the Daniel Fast, check it out. It’s 21 days of prayer and fasting,” Pratt told millions of followers via Instagram on Wednesday. “It’s going to coincide also, coincidentally, with the ‘Lego Movie 2′ junket. So, by the time you see me, I’ll probably be hallucinating. Stay tuned.”

According to Daniel-fast.com, the diet “is based on the fasting experiences of the Old Testament Prophet.”

“Entering into a period of extended prayer and fasting is like pushing the ‘pause button’ on life so you can draw nearer to God. The Holy Spirit joins you in this experience as you open your heart to receive from the Lord,” says the site.

Although he can be as funny offscreen as he is on — his recurring ‘What’s My Snack’ videos on Instagram are almost always delightful — it’s impossible to ignore some problematic aspects of his life offscreen,” complained TV Guide’s Kaitlyn Thomas.

Pratt’s announcement of his participation in the “Daniel Fast,” which would most certainly be categorized by Thomas as “problematic,” triggered a rush of backlash from folks online eager to mock his faith:

Others piled on criticism over Pratt’s general religiosity and apparent “Republican” vibe:
