Despite her heated public feud with Donald Trump during the primary, which took a particularly ugly turn after Trump criticized “that face,” former Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina has officially come out in support of her former rival.
“We must have president Trump, we can’t have president Clinton,” said Fiorina at an event Wednesday.
The endorsement comes as a bit of a surprise after the pair’s contentious primary feud, which really heated up when Trump made a comment about Fiorina’s appearance in an interview with the Rolling Stone in September.
“Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that?” remarked Trump while watching Fiorina on the news. “Can you imagine that, the face of our next president? I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”
Fiorina responded on “The Kelly File” later that day, saying, “Maybe I’m getting under his skin a little bit because I am climbing in the polls.”
She also had a chance to counter the insult during the CNN Republican primary debate the next week, saying, “I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said.”
The statement earned loud applause from the audience.
“I think she’s got a beautiful face and I think she’s a beautiful woman,” replied Trump.
As recently as June, insiders said that Fiorina would not lift a finger to help the Republican nominee, but clearly with November rapidly approaching, she has decided a President Trump would be less disastrous than a President Clinton.
