Is HBO host Bill Maher feeling the Bern? His comments regarding the socialist senator’s election chances on Friday night indicate yes.

Speaking on his show “Real Time,” Maher said that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) may be the best candidate to take on President Trump in November due to his strong grassroots support, which Maher hailed as an “army” willing to “get in the streets.”

“I’ll tell you why Bernie Sanders is attractive to me now because he’s the only Democrat who, like Trump, has an army, who when it gets to this other level, he’s got a bunch of bada** motherf****rs who will get in the streets,” Maher told the panel, as reported by Fox News.

As to the other candidates in the field, Maher felt that the moderates like Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) could perhaps win “more easily” but were not very good at politics. For example, he slammed former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s planned Super Bowl anti-gun ad for targeting the wrong demographic.

“A bunch of wings-eating, beer-drinking guys and you’re gonna come out there and say, ‘Let me introduce myself, I want to take your guns’ right after the truck commercial,” Maher said of Bloomberg’s plan.

Maher ultimately advised the Democrats to run on safe issues like healthcare, raising the minimum wage, and legalizing pot.

As for Bernie’s leftist counterpart, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Maher scolded her for going so extreme that she pledged to consult with a transgender high school student when selecting her Secretary of Education.

“Now, Obama said people just don’t want crazy stuff. Is this not crazy stuff? Is she running for president of Berkeley?” Maher asked.

Indeed, Elizabeth Warren went full crazy earlier this week during a CNN LGBTQ town hall in which she said that one of her qualifications for her Secretary of Education will hinge on where they stand with trans issues.

“I have two qualifications that I talk about over and over for my Secretary of Education,” she said. “The first: It has to be someone who’s taught in a public school, hello? And part 2, because it came from a young trans person who asked about a welcoming community, and I said it starts with a Secretary of Education who has a lot to do with where we spend our money, with what gets advanced in our public schools, with what the standards are, and I said, ‘I’m going to have a Secretary of Education that this young trans person interviews on my behalf.’”

Warren’s pledge was virtually an echo of what she told a 9-year-old at another CNN town hall in October of last year.

“I want to have a Secretary of Education who both believes in public education and believes in the value of every one of our kids and is willing to enforce our civil rights laws,” the senator replied. “I want to make sure that the person I think is the right Secretary of Education meets you and hears your story, and then I want you to tell me if you think that’s the right person.”
