President Joe Biden’s younger sister Valerie Biden Owens argued in a memoir released Tuesday that Democrats are more accurately described as “pro-life” than Republicans on the issue of abortion since Democrats stand for “a life in which a mother gets to determine her future and that of her child.”
“Like many women, I harbored complicated feelings on the topic,” Owens writes in her new memoir “Growing Up Biden,” published by Celadon Books. “I’m pro-choice, but I remain convinced that Democrats chose the wrong term for our side of the issue.”
Biden’s sister notes in her book that she sometimes refers to herself as pro-life, regardless of her support for increased abortion access for women.
“We should have been pro-life, for we are the ones advocating for a better life, a life in which a mother gets to determine her future and that of her child,” she also writes, Fox News was first to report on Monday. “Sometimes, I even accidentally say I’m pro-life, because that’s what it feels like the pro-choice position should have been called.”
Owens is a longtime campaign advisor to the president, serving as Biden’s campaign manager for all his elections in the Senate, as well as his presidential campaigns in 1988 and 2008. She was also a senior advisor for Biden’s 2020 presidential run.
The memoir containing information on the president comes roughly a year after lawyers for the Biden-Harris transition team instructed the niece of Vice President Kamala Harris that she is not permitted to author any books that include Harris’s name, likeness, or life history. The cover of Owens’s memoir includes a childhood picture of her, the president, their mother, and two brothers.
The White House did not respond to a Daily Wire request for comment.
“Growing Up Biden details Valerie’s decades-long professional career in politics, and the central role she played in her brother’s life as an insightful adviser, an ever-loyal advocate and best friend,” the description for the memoir states. “This memoir, full of candor and warmth, brings readers into the Biden home and shares stories from growing up in Delaware as the only daughter of the close-knit Irish Catholic family.”
In an interview Monday on her memoir, Owens said former President Donald Trump is “intent” on “bringing my brother down.”
“I assumed from the beginning that the former president and his entourage would attack my brother by going and attacking my family,” she said, referring to the wide-ranging evidence continuing to come to light on the president’s son Hunter Biden that Republicans argue amounts to wrongdoing.
