Ben Shapiro Responds to Report That Trump’s Campaign Manager Won’t Be Prosecuted

   DailyWire.com

In response to a report that Donald Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski would not be prosecuted for misdemeanor battery against former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields, Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro noted that the choice not to prosecute does not mean Lewandowski is innocent.

“Exercise of prosecutorial discretion is not innocence. Lewandowski grabbed her and bruised her,” Shapiro tweeted Wednesday.

Wednesday, Politico reported that “sources with knowledge of the situation” told them that the prosecutor involved in the Lewandowski-Fields case was not going to press charges against Lewandowski.

“The decision not to press charges against Corey Lewandowski is scheduled to be announced on Thursday afternoon by Palm Beach County State Attorney David Aronberg,” Politico reported, noting a source told them that “Fields may still pursue a defamation case against Lewandowski.”

Fields responded to the Politico report Wednesday, calling the leak “ugly.”

“Prosecutor’s office told me they would inform me of decision tomorrow,” tweeted Fields Wednesday. “If reports true, guess they decided to leak to reporters first. Ugly.”

She added that the prosecutor’s office asked her a couple of weeks ago if she would be satisfied with an apology from Corey. “I said ya but haven’t heard back about it,” she wrote.

When reports of Lewandowski’s aggressive encounter with Fields first surfaced, he denied having even had contact with her, tweeting, “@MichelleFields you are totally delusional. I never touched you. As a matter of fact, I have never even met you.” The Trump campaign backed Lewandowski, Trump himself even suggesting to reporters that Fields had “made up” the whole thing. However, when the Jupiter Police Department filed charges against Lewandowski and released surveillance footage confirming Fields’ account, the Trump campaign’s story changed. Rather than having “made up” the incident, they accused Fields of having exaggerated it for personal gain.

Wednesday night, Fields told TheBlaze she plans to pursue civil action against both Lewandowski and Trump for defamation of character.
